I have to report that the outpost on Quinn's
Hill was relieved at 5P.M 8th inst.
During the night only three or four
bombs were thrown at our position
 and fortunately all were ineffective
We had improvised bomb screens for
the trenches made of barb wire
 stretched over a wood framework
but the bombs did not fall far
enough forward to test there efficiency.
 Several bombs were also thrown
apparently in the valley to the left of
our postition. The Turks continue to
entrench in our front, but there
does not seem to be any indic-
ation of mining towards us now
as our sappers state they cannot

A few turks were visible on our

The 15th Bn Continued the defence of
Quinn's Post from 8th inst. During the day
the firing of the enemy was light,
but they were very busy on their
earthworks in front of our position. As their
trenches were so close to ours, it enabled
the enemy to throw bombs which fell
in dangerous proximity to our troops
 but fortunately we suffered no
casualties from this source during the day
In the afternoon it was decided by
Divn H.Q that we should make a
 reconnaissance in force, and accordingly
arrangements were made for 9PM. At
8.30PM the enemy fired four star shells
on our rt front which was apparently
a signal for some action on their part

Their firing too increased in volume & it

an hour. Particulars of our operations have

been already submitted to you in our
operation order. At about 10.30PM the
three units told off to assault, left our
 trenches and without great opposition
occupied the enemys trenches. There was one
position of the trenches however which could
not be cleared of Turks & so we were not
able to obtain touch all along the line
After our occupation of the trenches the
 Turks obtained continuous reinforcements
Realizing the seriousness of having the enemy

as the officers were shot immediately upon

leaving our trenches the attack ^ assault proved
abortive. The enemy then made a counter
