alongside, took in fresh
water in afternoon

Troopships left about

Hampshire left with
them, Japanese
exchanged places
with Russians
Russian came in

ahead presume

Ascanius took the place
of Afric in our division
she collided with us at
4.30 a.m.  The Argyleshire
slowed op sending us the
signal, we signalled
Ascanius but she could
not have recieved same
as she struck our stern
on starboard side with her
port bow carrying away
back bridge & doing
surface damage.  This
shock bent us over and
suk she then struck again
admidships only glancing
blows, alarms were
sounded, everyone

not correct as found
later, troops were
commended on
behaviour, on impact
the boys on Ascarius
seemed to be excited
5 men were reported
overboard from her
no one was lost thrown
one of A11 boats was thrown
on her deck
