HIGH COMMISSIONER
FOR NEW ZEALAND.
NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT OFFICES.
415, STRAND.
LONDON, W.C.2.
9th September, 1947.
Dear Mrs. Pearson,
Thank you for your letter of the 3rd instant. I am
sorry to hear that you have been ill and hope that you have
quite recovered.
It is good of you to have taken so much trouble to com-
ply with the request, and Mr. Jordan has asked me to send
you his grateful thanks for the portrait of your brother,
which he is happy to accept. The other copy will be for-
warded to Mr. Walsh. The original (i.e., the photograph
taken in Melbourne) is being returned, as the High Com-
missioner feels that it should remain in your possession.
Again thanking you,
Believe me,
Yours sincerely,

Dear Mrs. Pearson,
Many thanks for your letters of the 17th. July and
6th. September, and also for the nice photo which you sent us of
your dear Mother and Brother which we are having suitably framed
and hung in our club rooms.
I am glad to know that the parcels that we have sent
you arrived safely and that they have proved helpful to you.
We were distressed when we received your letter some
time ago in which you had enclosed a £5 English note to purchase
a wreath for your dear Brother’s grave, to find that the money
had been removed and confiscated by the British Customs Authorities,
and we are delighted to learn that as a result of the representations
that we made through the Australian Red Cross Society that His
Majesty's Customs have agreed to refund this amount to you. As
President of the Legion I personally was pleased to purchase and
lay a wreath on your behalf on last Anzac Day.
It is most encouraging to learn that you now are able
to go out a little each day, and we trust that you may have a speedy
and lasting recovery.
With best wishes and affectionate regards from us one
and all.
Yours very sincerely,
James L Moore
President.
