MARCH Mena 3rd Month 1915
9 TUESDAY
There is very little to do
today. Capt Stacey has
taken the boys for a march
along the Cairo road. I
went across to see Arthur
Stewart tonight but he was
not in.

10 WEDNESDAY
We have all been waiting
for our letters today. We
managed to get some tonight.
I received one from
Vera but no others.

11 TUESDAY
I went to Cairo today for
a few hours only. I went
to see the boys at the
Railway sheds. Arthur Stewart
has been over here tonight
No news of moving yet

I2 FRIDAY
Uneventful
P.S. Our reinforcements
arrived here today after spending
a few days at Abbassia. They
came to Egypt with the W.A.
light horse.

13 SATURDAY
50% of our boys have
leave today for Cairo.

14 SUNDAY
This morning Capt Clarke , Geo.
Stead O. Gawler & I went for a
walk across the fields to
the village & took a few Photos'.
We intended going to the Barrage
this afternoon but did not go.
Went to church with Bert Garland
& Gar & met Young Sharp & Bob Mackay.
We did not think a few months
ago that the 4 of us from W. Perth
church would be together so
soon at Cairo Presby church.

15 MONDAY
I posted letters to Vera & Ethel.
I thought when I wrote that
they would be the last letters
for a while but hope to be
able to write again before we go
as there are no signs of moving
yet. Capt Stacey took the boys
for a march this morning. I
went to see Tom Keay at the light
horse tonight for a few minutes.
Jim Wiseman is supposed to
arrive tonight or late with the
reinforcements from W.A

I6 TUESDAY
This morning it rained
a little, Something new
for this part of Egypt. I
went with the W.O over to give
our men some Waggon drill
at the 1st Field Ambulance.
This evening we have been
having donkey races. I
received a letter from Mother &
Vera, Jamie & Ethel today

I7 WEDNESDAY
Sergt Robinson & Charlie Eatt
both have measles & have been
sent to Mona house. I have
releived Sgt. Robinson in Cairo
goods sheds on guard. We gave
old Dock Lally a hot time
today being St. Patrick's day.

18 THURSDAY
There has been very little
to do today. Sid Deamer
& I went for a walk
around the town tonight
Mr Armond was around
to see us this morning.

19 FRIDAY
Clive Custhoys & I began
frying our dinner today &
they all think it good.

Geo Stead, Dick Dalby & I went
out for tea

20 SATURDAY
Cpl. Winchcombe brought a relief
in this morning for the day. Gar
& I went to the Barrage & to the
pictures tonight. The Barrage is
a great piece of work & the
gardens are beautiful. We got a
small piece of Australian Wattle
there. We saw the locks working
& also saw models of all the
works in the Museum in
the Gardens. The Barrrage is
almost at the back of the
Mona camp looking from the
pyramids. We could pick up
hetiograph signalling from the big
pyramid] quite plainly.

21 SUNDAY
Gar & I went to St Andrews
church this morning & enjoyed
the service. Clyde called in
this afternoon on his way to
the "barrage". I wrote to
Mother Ethel & Mr Ross
tonight & had them posted
We had fried egg for tea

22 MONDAY
The Colonel sent Capt Clarke
in today to inspect the
guard & to make sure that
every box was here. Rather
a tall order. The Capt had
dinner with us (fried potatoes &
vegetables) & I went with him
this afternoon around town &
to the bazaar & we had
afternoon too at Sailt's cafe.
I bought a table centre or cushion
cover for Mother.

23 TUESDAY
The young French lad has
been rouned here most of the
day. He is anxious to teach
me French. Tonight he came
out & bought a scarf for 10P.T
for me. I thought it would
be nice for Vera or Bella.

24 WEDNESDAY
This morning Clive Custhoys
Gar & myself went along to see
the Hasr-El-Nil gardens just
past the " " " bridge. They
are very nicely laid out. Clive
struck up a conversation with
a little French boy about 6 years
old. We sat down down for a while
under the Australian Wattle.
MARCH Cairo 3rd Month 1915
25 THURSDAY
This morning Clive Caithoys
Gars & myself went to see
portion of Old Cairo We saw
the very old mosque (1300 years)
with the 366 pillars & then went
to the Coptic church under
which we saw the crypt where
the holy family are said to
have stayed for 1 month during
their stay in Egypt. Then we
went to see the "Nilometer" built
in 716 A.D. We were not able
to go any further through the
garden to see the spot where
Moses was supposed to have
been found. At midnight
tonight the 3 of us were out
at the noutly train for eggs
& got about 4 dozen.

26 FRIDAY
The W.O. was here for a while
this morning. I am writing
toMother & Ethel today &
sending cushion over to mother
& scarf to Bella by this weeks
mail also packet of P.C's of Cairo
to [[?Auntie]] Dolly& ( Jack & Alice) also
letter to Jack

27 SATURDAYIt has been a horriblydirty day today. Our guard
was relieved for the day only
by a party from camp. This
afternoon Gawler, Whitehouse &
I went to an Orchestral
recital & heard most beautiful
music. There were about 50
players. We resumed duty at
6 oclock again

28 SUNDAY
Gar & I went to church
this morning. We had
planned a trip to the
Maccatham hills but it
was a horribly dusty day so
we postponed it. The
torritorials had a march past(Th General Ian Hamilton) Shephards
Hotel this morning.
