Dearest darling

And a ton of love for you honey

Here I am back in the old camp again

after a week out in the backwoods, We

were all glad to return too to the sunlight

again.

I guess you’ll be wondering what goes on, well

another  Pl has taken over our job out there

and we have returned to do a few more

jobs back here and also do some trips

to "other" coys.

I have been unable to write till now

owing to the changover and just at present

owing to heavy rain we can't do much

round here.

Since I wrote last I've been virtually swamped

with letters from you so I will be going

again to catch up with the answering.

The other day 4 Japs jumped out on a track

out here where 4 of the Pl were walking

along with a good many natives.

The Natives saw them first and cried "Nippon"

where upon our fellas went to ground very

smartly. The nips opened fire but were

put off their aim by our blokes who

fired just before them. One Jap was killed

and one wounded, the other two, “went thru"

none of my blokes got touched, so we had

another win there.

The natives have very keen eyes and ears &

always know when the nip is about, they

are certainly quick in getting behind trees etc

when anything happens.

Don't think by that, that we go anywhere near

the Jap Consentrations, he often sends small

parties through like that infiltrating "thru"

our front line

Well we were happy to have a cooked hot

meal again and a good cleanup, when we

arrived in, apart from that there's not much

news to give you offhand except!

I have the parcels! Yes both of them and

they are in excellent order, just as if

they had only been packed yesterday, and

am I going for the lollies, the almonds were

especially good.

Thanks again darling although they arrived

late, none of the goodness left them and

as parcels generally are scarce they are pra'ps

more welcome than they would have been

on 28th April.

Now letters, gosh  I don't know where to start

I'll probably get one done anyway today.

Well I've only got 5 to answer thats all

from 27 to 31, inclusive, so here we

go.

I received 27 and 28 one day, the next day

came 26 and 2 days after 29 30 and 31,

and the parcels came also that was last

Saturday (today Monday.

No honey  I know you had not forgotten

me, when I didn't get mail early in the

month I knew it was held up in any case

there are plenty of South Aussies here and

they were all in the same boat.

Well I can't answer anything to your news

of Bet, for I am xx surprised and the

whole thing is beyond me, but I fancy

Mr Mules was nearly right, saying Snow

& Bet had no brains, it's pretty apparent

something is missing.

Yeah! I know Mr Douglas, he used to collect

the insurance while we were in the Black

Smith's Shop, he can mag alright.

Just as soon as we get set honey, the kiddies

will take out an insurance policy. I reckon

it's just as well to wait until then as we

don't know and if it's started I want to

keep it up, regular.

You ask if we might be used in further

landings, well when you find out let me

know will you”  We're pretty well occupied

here at present though so you work it out.

Received Lodge Papers ok Honey and always

look for the mighty C.Ds name on the bottom

of the page. I'm always frightened it has

fallen off it's so close to the edge.

Well our little girl seems never to be

satisfied round and round the house. She's

a naturally curious baby and each letter

you send tells of new feats in voice and

accomplishment, she's such a darling baby

it's no wonder we love her so much and

talk so much of her.

Well honey this is all for today and I do

hope tomorrow may allow me to start on

another.

My fondest regards to everyone home, which

reminds me having thought about Pete's

loan I feel we can do it OK, so

long as it be a strictly business deal

I'm for it. I know Pete needs a bike &

I am glad to be able to assist him to

purchase one as I know a spot cash buy

will be the best and cheapest for him

the bike is always a security and I've

no doubt at all about his knowledge

of them, and if I know him, should it

become necessary to sell it then he'll

get all or more than he paid for it, Yes

I think it is a fair suggestion and want you

to know I approve wholly.

OK now darling cheerio for today and honey

thank you for your letters average of a

letter every other day since I was home, &

I can say this, not even food or sleep or

anything can refresh me so well as a

letter from home.

All my love for you sweetest and lots

of kisses for our infants.

Seems as if DAS will be 'the strength of

the family' and I am certainly amazed

at his weights etc

Yours lovingly

forever Col
