To
My own darling wife,
And how are you.
If I were you and you were me
you’d have a fair idea just how
much I love you right this minute
and if I were there where you are
all comfortable in the Kitchen, with
Mum xxx reading some paper or
other in the dining room, with the
young fellar in the sitting room
and Eleanor now where is she.
You don't know! she was by the
tank a minute ago,
I spo’se it will end up you are
reading this up the street or some
where,
How would you like a big hokus
pokus, or as the nigs say “bo mok”
(smoke], Well whatever youre' doing
wherever you are you may believe
that I love you completely and
fully and just between you and
I I'd just like you to be within
arms reach right now.
Well news since I last wrote (that
was this morning) the mail goes
from here, about 2.0, tis now 4.30
The trip was OK a fairly quick
one today 'bout 4 hours or so
generally take 4 ½ to 5. We are
sure lucky, the rain has held off.
and the ground is not so muddy
just now.
Stop pause for teatime (bully beef,
Bread, jam, tea,), Well its now
Thursday 24th and its been raining
all morning,
The boys are out on a "trip" just
now and they should be back
within the hour.
I havn't done very much myself
Censored a few letters and generally
reckon my picture was taken among
others 20 times,
At one stage when we were nearing
the beach a Yank boat came along
side and they had a movie camera
going for 3 or 4 minutes (us looking at
them.
When we got on the beach, or soon
afterwards you couldn't move for
Cameramen,
Well the controvosy they talk about
in the papers is mostly bunk, I read
that a plane load of poultry came
up here from Adelaide, but never
ever saw it nor have I heard of
anyone who has,
The Yank Navy bloke was pretty
right, but the they took charge
of all that gear and if it were
insufficient then its there fault
it was their gear. We only landed
to fight
I see Bet is in hospital “Brissy”
Kept out of the rain
No 26. No 27 & 28 I have here so here
I go.
Well I should smile at you words
on the Tivoli, a lot different from my
thoughts of how you'd like it, its a
bit of a problem. You know, entertainment,
Ill have to learn dancing. I
want to anyway, I suppose there'll
be plenty for us to do though after the
war. Yes plenty.
But darling you couldn't have seen a
decent live show, vautival - What
is your opinion of George Hodgins?
He's a big hyde isn't he?
Well you've certainly surprised me
with Valerie's Mother's Day presents,
did she do that unbeknown to
anyone else? She must have thought
about it for quite a while, good Kid,
And I might say x honey if you
had seen my nose on the news
reel I wouldn't be surprised, for I
no wonder her mother's worried
over her, as know one knows
what next she’ll be doing, if
you wrote and told me she was in
the North Pole I wouldn't be surprised
knowing her so well. I'm not exactly
happy, as you would be too over
her.
Have got Eleanors teeth, right now honey
(by the way I love you x
Yep sure do, Boyley (Dave Boyley was
our CSM in the 43rd Bn and he
was discharged account of his age.
He was in the army 'bout 15 or 18
years., Yes I know him well -
Well Im closing in a hurry honey the
mail is ready to go so cheerio for
now and all my love, Yes a ton
of kisses from your ole man
love to our darling ubabies from
Pop and regards to all home
Forever
Yours to love
Col
