Letters from Lt Colin Douglas Simper to Mrs Irene Simper Wallet 2, Part 16

and sent that along too, so
here I am, how are you? XX
And mum met you at the station
well I bet you were glad indeed
it makes you realize what home
is when you get away from it.
I should know, every stone on
the way from the station is
just like gold. I love every
one of them and glory in a
wildly enthusiastic thrill, for
every step, and the old ticker
pounds and pounds, "What if
she's not home", No she must
be! "How does she look", I can
never seem to go fast enough
Anyway darling, next time
there'll be no going back, I'll
have no leave pass, stating
hw many days I'm permitted
to be with my darling, no - Ill
just turned round at the gate
with you under my wing and
say thats that, - .
Sook! dark?, or is it " bbook don't"
she's a good kid, I shall never
cease to wonder at her, I think
she'll always be like that, quick
and spontaneous, a bit of a
temper, quick and wild, then
laughing and serious and a
fair bit of deep thinking
Well and why, how did I know
that the "man" next to me at
the pictures was a girl, I don't
think men smell any different
than a girl except you (CAREFUL
HOW YOU READ THAT,) and I don't
peer into everyone's face I see,
Anyhow!! - who cares, I wouldnt
have worried if it had turned
out to be a gorilla, I was interested
in the pictures, Mind you
when I'm with you I'd just as
soon sit looking at you all
night, that's the prettiest picture
Ive known.
A fellar doesn't mind his clothes
ponking if every one else is the same
no diff, these are occasions when
men do differ from woman as
regards smell.
You mention Eleanor, & how to
make her laugh, I shall always
remember those times when she
was at the table waiting for her
"ninner,' I'd rush up and
burst out laughing at her &
she'd scream laughing every time
Pop would say "What's the Metter
with her??, Ill never forget
the way she reacted when I
laughed, and she says - errr
after she's finished each outburst.
Ha Ha Ha Ha - errr, What
a girl
I told you I’d fixed the allottment
didn't I, my drawing rate is
increased up here, and I saw
the pay bloke who says I have
to draw 6/6 (officers) for myself
actually be made it 6/10 to
make round figures on pay day.
So Ill be saving on the 6/6
I should save 4 or 5/- a day
of that, still I haven't bought
any tob yet (we had a free
issue of 6 ozs) on the boat
That will cost 'bout 10/- a week
The £40 which you'll get will
bump up the bank a/c, a bit,
Now back to you re Joyce, What
if she had had water coming
away she'd surely be a wake
up to that, pads, wadding, or
something - rubber pants maybe.
I know I didn't pay any attention
but I'd surely have noticed
if Mum Young rushed in with
a floor cloth and commenced
rubbing the floor as though her
life depended on it.
Bet's worried (re roomours of us
leaving Aussie) Well honey I
prefer you as you are, faithfully
prepared in your heart to
accept what is my and your
due, I am not in the least
worried, not a little bit BUT
if you were pining yourself
away worrying about me, making
yourself and everyone else
miserable then, ah then I should
worry. Knowing it to be bad
for you, for your health and
whats even important, for
our babies, they'd be a pretty
pair I must say if you went
round with a long face, yes,
nice and happy they'd grow up.
Of course if that's Bet's nature
to worry that way it wont
be altered, I know this though
if Snow loves her at all, he'll
be doing a far lot more worrying
over her worry than she
over his health. Why worry
anyhow.
Let us not have one moment of sadness.
Life's journey is too precious to waste
even a minute (Simper)
Well darling it seems that Eleanor is
what may be termed Papa concious, and
I can now visualize her giving you the
oil so as she can go the lav
each time.
Well the only thing I think that
has any bearing on Eleanor's bath
screams, is that she is wise to
the fact ^that when you take her out
she doesn't scream once she's out
of it only blubbers a little, and
that's the reason why I think that
she's not doing herself harm, if
she were really hysterical she'd
continue for quite a while after
wards, course thats only my idea
in any case I agree it's definitely
not the best having her that
way. Trouble is she's still got
to have her bath, she may
grow out of it when she realizes
she has to put up with it.
I don't pay any income tax
now honey having been refunded
back as far as last July
but I'll send you the list of
charges.
Well honey I think its a darned
sound scheme, if Pete makes
a xxx china cabinet for us, we'll
know its been made properly, a
good idea that
Well now cheerio dear wife, hoping
to hear again soon from you
No 12 arrived yesterday, all my
love for you and big kisses for
our babies, Regards to all
home
