Darling wife,
Hullo honey &
here I am again somewhere
"in the north", and honey
I'm the guy that loves
the girl who'se the bestest
darling wife in the world
Well honey Im happy
to say that wev'e been
well looked after and
the goodwill of these Country
people is entirely different
from those nearer the
cities. They seem to -
4 2
AUSTRALIAN ARMY CANTEEN CLUB
take th us all as
a matter of course.
it's certainly heartening to see
some enthusiasm in the
welcome, as was displayed
by these kindly people of
Queensland.
I have had two showers
since leaving Brissy and
one of them was at our
last halt, which was 2.0
we had breakfast at 3.0
this morning so our meals
are pretty irregular. I've
not suffered though, except
my £5 will be pretty
well cut out before I
reach camp.
This is the third letter to
you this trip and I
also wrote to mum xx
I saw Mrs Taylor and
spent a couple of hours
3
AUSTRALIAN ARMY CANTEEN CLUB
with her on my last
night there, she's a queer
cuss always accepting the
worst of the war and
anything that happens.
We heard the ameteur
hour program while there
on her wireless, her hubby
is in Sydney at present
with the Allied Works Council.
Both her daughters are
married now and are
trying to get priority travel
to Sydney to live
Saw Snow just before.
He left and he said
he'd see me on the
next leave, he takes a
different route to us.
at present I am sitting
on the top bunk of
6
AUSTRALIAN ARMY CANTEEN CLUB
our sleeping compartment
and its pretty warm up
here near the roof, Im
pretty tired mostly of the
train and it's hard to
know just how to pass
away the time.
The train has stopped awhile
now so Ill race ahead,
Dont know where Im likely
to post this or how it
will get home but here's
hoping.
Today is Monday and I
wonder what you are doing
the washing is on the
line I should say and
you may be doing some
ironing, or reading the
Express & Journel, but
whatever you are doing
7
AUSTRALIAN ARMY CANTEEN CLUB
understand that your ole man
is pining for you a big heap
While in Brissy I stalked
all over town looking for
a suitable reminder for you
for Mothers day, but like
or worse than adelaide all
there is in the shops is
junk the same old stuff
everywhere. I don't suppose
Ill get much opportunity now
wer'e away again)
Now darling how are everyone
home, how is Mum xxx now
our two babies? are they
OK.,
I will say cheerio for the
time honey all I can
do is hope and pray
we'll be together again
soon not for a day
AUSTRALIAN ARMY CANTEEN CLUB
or a month but for always
I can't tell you how much
I love you. I can't explain
why it hurts so to be
away from you, all I know
is I miss you, need you
terribly and am only
living for those sweets things
those hours spent. I
remember them so well,
and darling, gee honey I
miss those kids a lot.
I hadnt realized what they
meant to me before
Bye honey its you Ill
love
Forever
