Dear Chickaboo,
In a few short days you will be one
year old and I will not be there to wish you all the very
best for all the succeeding years, but always remember
my Dear whenever the succeeding years become a worry
to you that you are a descendent of two very old families
the Mackenzies and the Dillon's (or if you wish to delve further
into history the de Leon's). Remember too, when your
enemies tongue becomes too embittered, that your forebears
were known, honoured and feared throughout the world
of that day when these same enemies forebear had
not even a name to distinguished themselves from others
of a similar likeness. Did I say one year old or
twenty one years my Dear Delore's? I am skipping
the years tonight - past and present.
What can I tell you this morning
Wo Wo? Can I ask you where is Tai Tai ! or
can I ask would you like a little Dog! or perhaps I
can ask you if you can ride you little Car Car?
or can I tell you what is in my heart! That I would
just like to hold you with my head resting on your shoulder
and you head resting on mine!
Cultivate your thoughts if you will,
[[Bingatary?]] but not to the exclusion of all else —
other things have a pride of place too. You, no doubt
will learn this when that one year becomes two and
and later too when there is a one in front of the one
year and then a two.
But remember there is a very old saying that is
also very true "Laugh and the world laughs with you —
frown and you frown alone" So the moral is -
no matter how great your sadness smile smile
smile - my little Bintatany
I have but just a few hundred words with
which I must wander and push my way through this
world chickaboo - so how can I truly express my
thoughts this day – Boyhood memories come back
to me in the form of of a few lines of prose:
"Oh - would that my tongue could utter the thoughts
that arise in me"
what more can I say then - only this
try, not only to become familiar with a few thousands
but learn how to express yourself with them
My Dear the Sand man is coming now
so I must go to bed - but remember little wo wo
should I not be with you in the years to come I will
be beside you in spirit and thought

Hallo Mine Chichaboo.
I received your letter a few days ago.
and it was a nice letter too and I am glad that
you liked the chocolates, but it is too hot now for chocolates
so I do not think it would be wise to send any just
yet. I think that you would like ice cream or an ice
block better than chocolates just now.
I am sending you two more one
dollar bills, one of them you will notice has Hawaii printed
on it. I am enclosing some very valueless "money" -
that is if the censor will permit me, it may cause you
some amusement.
I hear that you have a little pup and
that he is just like a lamb, but what is his name?
I hope he won't bite me when, one of these days. I do
come home. You will tell him not to bite me won't
you?
Well mine Chichaboo I think that it
is time that I went to bed. So 'Nite Nite' Chichaboo
Cheers
Daddie
XXXX Eight by kisses for you.
XXXX and a great big hug too

Dear Chickaboo,
I have had an idea that you have wanted
to get Mummie a present for Mother's Day, so knowing
that you would not be able to got to the shops on your
own I have bought something for you to give to mum.
I have been told that you have been
stopping at either Venella or Dundonell - I am not quite
clear which though. but I was told that you have a tiny
little baby lamb - what do you give him to eat.
Are you going to draw a picture of the
Wind Mill at Dundonnell and send it to me? I would
like to see what it looks like.
when are you going to plant some little
trees in the garden? I hope that your little water can
is still good and that you can still water the garden
with it.
Do you still like the little kittens at the
shop? But I hope that the new ones, do not bite or
scratch you, and I hope that Bluey is a good dog.
Be very careful of snakes Chickaboo - and don't go
near them but run away and tell someone.
