My dearest Jock,

I'm ging to write you a few

to give you some particulars of our trip over but

there is a chance of us getting our letters read so I

dont know whether it will get through but as I

wrote to Mother & Father today it will (page torn)

matter whether they burn it. I never

our movements in their letters as I

them to get through but I fancy

to England that they mean as I dont see that

it can make any difference if I let you know

our movements. I know you will be anxious

to know. Well we arrived here today on our own

but when we got there were fifteen transports

in the harbour & two more came tonight. Our

Escort is also here. We may stay here for about

a week there is some talk of is going next

Sunday but it will most likely turn out the same

as all the reports we heard at Broadmeadows

It has been raining here really all day I

only hope it goes East. We got some papers

today the first since leaving Melbourne

                                       Sunday Afternoon

My Dearest Mother,

As we expect to arrive at Albury early tomorrow & a mail will

be going ashore I must write you a few lines to let you know how I

am getting along. Well so far I have been as right as rain & eating

like a horse, we get feed like fighting cocks on the boat, we get pudding

every day at dinner time. This is a bonzer boat, when the sea

is anything like calm it is hard to tell that she is moving

& the hammocks are just the thing to sleep in. We got a great

send off from Melbourne, there was a great crowd on the pier as

the boat went out. I saw a bonzer shark alongside the boat

a couple of nights ago, it kept going from one side of the boat

to the other, we also saw a couple of whales spouting in the

distance. There are a few forces on the boat but I think

they are taking them off at Albury, we may be there a few

days. It is a treat to get out of Broadmeadows dust & heat

I dont know how the second contingent will get on if they

stay there for two months longer. Please excuse the pencil

but as I'm on guard & we are staying in another part of the

boat today & my gear is down at my bunk, I cant get it until

tonight when we go off. It is all physical drill on board

the boat, including, we see some bonzer goes at

times. I'm using this thin paper the pad you got me

is down below. being on guard here is a cut above what

it was at Broadmeadows. We have what I take to be

the third clan music room for the guard. Well mother dear

this paper is done. I'll most likely write before we leave Albury

With tons of [[?]] all at hone I [[rem?]]
