be built almost on
the level of the water
coming passed the town
which is built almost
in the bank of the
Canal. we passed an
English house & the
men & women gave
us a great hoy, the old man waving a
red ensign from the
balcony of the house
All the way along
the Canal there were
[[?]] troops of the
first lot we passed
[[?]] Indians, they
gave us a great
cheer & were busy
entrenching, then
we passed a lot of
Territorials & then
another lot of Indians
they were dressed in
khaki but wore
turbans, one of our
fellows fired his
rifle off accidentally
today & the bullet went
through his hand

five of seven
Indian troops are
said to have been
wounded by snipers
along the Canal last
night.
[[?]] Went over the
Pyramids in the morning
but marching & [[?]]
fighting in the morning. Went
up to the top of
the Pyramids & through
the inside to
the tombs of the
King & Queen, the
Kings Chamber was
12 [[?]] & the walls
about 30 feet high
All solid & smooth
with holes to the
outside as ventilators
the coffin of the
King is solid stone
which must be 8 ft
by 2ft six & a tremendous
weight. Some
of the stones that
I measured on
the top of the

pyramid was 5 & by
½ & 2½' King [[?]]
is on the
top of the Pyramid
which the guide
told us was written
by himself

Sunday 20th Church Parade
in the morning, the Service
being taken by the
Bishop of Sydney. Went
to xxx Ciaro in the
afternoon & saw the
Gardens. Went to
the Y.M.C.A. for
tea, also went to
Church at night
With the [[?]] of the
Y.M.C., the service
was an American
mission. Had a
narrow shave on the
way home as I was
pointing to a
place that we had
marched in the
morning a tram
car met us & hit
my hand, but luckily
I got off with

just a bruise &
bit of a tear, the
cars come very close
past each other here.
This was the day
of the Proclamation
by Egypt, the [[?]] Battalion
marched in to
take part in the
celebrations. 20.12.14
