Davits on port side carried away when attempting to lift launch inboard while a slight swell was running. These davits were condemned by the C.O. while the ship was in Townsville in Oct. 42. Material was ordered by the O.C. through L.O.C. HQ in Dec. 42. But in spite of persistent inquiries and signals the material for making the new davits did not arrive until three days before the vessel was ready to leave for sea. The Railway Work who had undertaken to make the new davits were unable to have them finalised in time. as they were handling priority work for the Navy. |
