Wind blew very fresh and strong during
night. Sent detachment of natives to
make contact with any natives in
vicinity and to proceed overland to Trial
Bay, South of Caledon Bay under Corporal
Raiwalle. Fires not close to northern
shoreline of Blue Mud Bay indicate
presence of natives there but am
unwilling to take the vessel close to
that shoreline during SE weather as it
is lee shore and almost uncharted.

  At anchor in Trial Bay
Corporal Raiwalla returned late
yesterday afternoon with his patrol.
He had made contact with natives from
Blue Mud Bay who reported having
sighted low-flying twin-engined aircraft
over Arnhem Land about the middle
of May. Careful checking of these
accounts and close cross-examination
suggests that these were RAAF Lockhead
Rudsons possibly engaged in search for
lost Gannet aircraft for which we are
searching. Watering vessel from wells
on beach. Nowabout 100-150 natives at
Trial Bay.
