I reckon your plan to give up further   
strenuous pursuit is a good wheeze 
if you can stick the place O.K. If 
you come across something, well 
& good but it seems that the 
problem is a proper headache. 
Damn nuisance, the firewood 
being so tough to split, you'd 
think something could be done 
to give you girls a fair go there. 
It was a relief to find out that  
the chats arent a fixture they 
would cast a long shadow over 
any house.  Just now you have  
actually liked the place, it can't 
be that bad.  As far as I am  
concerned, after living in all 
sorts of joints for years , I will 
be quite satisfied if its warm 
and comfortable and  You and 
Richard will provide plenty

I won't say I'm disappointed you
simply vetoed my suggestion
of going back to Ada. Anyhow
it wont be long for you to
suffer the solitary life, the
weeks whip by so quickly.
You didnt take long to
get in cahoots with the land 
lord, you fox, bribing him
with cups of tea to give you fags.
For some unknown reason, I
feel very weary tonight so
will postpone further gossip
until tomorrow. Cheerio for 
its me for the bed. Give my
best beloved babe a big kiss
and I don't mind telling you

Nothing further from 
you since my masterly effort
the other night but I guess you
didnt mind that and can under-
stand that occasional sluggish
mood that palsies the mind and
hand. Nothing wrong with the
old boy, just tired. Been pretty
busy the last few weeks with
much manipulation of figures
but feel quite O.K and reasonably
fresh at present.
Hope you and the
pippin continue to flourish.
Your reports of late have been
very good so I can tell you I'm
right on my toes. The last batch
of photos whetted my zest for
a peep at you and if we

are all in the pink, it will
make a grand occasion even
grander. Finish twelve yr
months on the island next week
so I should be facing up to the
barrier shortly. One heartening
factor, I have a relief lined up
which is a big help.
Its more satisfying to find out
that the house is not such a
dump as it sounded at first.
It damn well ought to be anyway
for it could hardly be classed
as cheap.  I can't help hoping
that we can achieve something
easier on the pocket for it is
getting the lions share of our
combined income with nary a
permanent benefit to us to
set off against it. Its a good 
war for some people, eh?
I shall certainly take a bit of

time off when I come back to
sound out War Service and
similar projects but from what
I can gather no concerted plan
will be entertained in that
direction until after the war.
I know from conversations Ive had
with blokes that have just returned
from leave that the mainland
stinks, the old complacency &
indifference has returned with
interest now the precious skins
of the citizenry have been saved 
and strange as it may seem, they 
are glad to get away out of it,
even to New Guinea. A chaps
[[?]]  fortunate to have a beaut wife
and son to come home to, for you
know my feelings about a lot of 
my compatriots on the home 
front

I sent a telegram off today to
let you know I've not forgotten
a certain big day in our lives.
Tough to be away again on that
particular day but will let it
go at that and hope for a better
show next year. Anyhow have
a pint of nice milk on me.
Well, lovely bundle,
time for the bunk now so
off I go to my favorite pastime.
Goodnight, Sweetheart, all
my love goes to you. Give
the young mother a big kiss
from the bloke in the photo.
