Darling Kay.
Heres the last letter to
you, sweet, for yet another year.
Far too much of our lives has
been spent by correspondence but
I suppose its better to take
the attitude of being thankful
for small mercies. If one
contemplates how awful it would
be if we were completely cut off
from each other, the boon of a
good mail service attains an
importance that would be out
of proportion in normal times.
However it hasn't been so good for
the letters I referred to in my
last letter to you have had no
successors as yet.

2/
I do hope the low period you were
experiencing has passed
and a few of mine have done
their modest part in making
your life tolerable.
Maybe something will come
along tonight to tell me Mummy
& Richard are in the pink.
I'm feeling O.K, had a day off
today for working Christmas
day and scooted off to the beach
for swimming & sunbathing.
Very nice too, I felt very ruddy
after it and as tired as the
devil. So if I can get plenty of
that I shall descend upon you
like a giant refreshed (I hope)
when I'm reprieved.

3/
I hope so for the journey down
from here is no bludge and
I don't want to feel a total
wreck when I arrive. Do you
know what I'd love just now,
a couple of cold pots of beer.
Doesn't worry me much but you
know how it is sometimes you
have a momentary craving for
one particular thing. Well I
have it for that malty brew
cascading over the tonsils but it
will just pass on unassuaged,
unfortunately. I have a bundle
of Accountancy Text Books here
that I had sent on from
Mrs. Rawling. To cut it short
I'm sending them on to you

4/
along with a pair of shorts, my
private property. These garments
are taboo and its  green
pants day and night now. There
are a lot of other books in a
box of Mum's place so if they
are in your road, take them
over and pop em in with the
others. Am off to the pictures
when I finish this. Fred Astaire
is on in some turn, dunno the
name but it mightn't be bad.
Big sports day tomorrow and
I am a track marshal down
there. Toyed with the idea of
having a gallop myself but
I think  old Anno Domini
had better prevail. I'll survive

5/
the day much better as an official
I think. Concerning a matter
that is dear to our hearts,
the establishment of and 'appy 'ome.
I can pass a few words. A
pamphlet on War Service Homes
came into my possession and
I have had a good perusal
of the Scheme. A fellow here
has spent his lifetime in the
real estate game was telling
me, he considered the loan aspect
a good proposition better still to
say three years after the end of
the word. However I'll browse
among it some more and tell
you more in this weeks Green
Envelope letter. It's a subject

6/
upon which we can exchange
ideas from letter to letter.
I was glad to learn Graves
Registration had your matter
in hand. Dear me, you don't
seem to think we Army wallahs
go in much for courtesy
and the fal-de-lals. Now
the organisation is well under control,
they are not doing a
bad job. Do you know that
our pay and finance system
is recognised as the best of any
army in the world. The Yanks
or the Tommies have nothing
to compare with it. Service to
the troops in the field is our
watchword.

7/
Well, as I cannot conjure
up any more news just now
I shall shove off for a
gander at the pictures. That's
the effect of a shortage of
letters, sweetheart.
So for another brief
interval I say adieu and
embrace your chunky figure
ardently and kiss you lots.
All my love is yours, just
spare some for a hug for
wee Richard.
Micky
