Wed Nov 3  Still No Duty - saw Play of "Lord Babs"

very humorous - no pay yet

Thur Nov 4th  Still No Duty - lads saw people at

Gaol - Read A.R.P. notice on parade - hope they do

come soon.- Broke

Fri Nov 5th  Arthur gave me another $5- still no duty

shoulder & side playing up with pain -

paid $1-30 ARTHUR & Syd missed

out on Blakang Mate Party. Fauntleroy

came back & is in Hospital

Sat Nov 6th  St Warden wins division  of Caulfield

Cup. also Skipton. Java party left G & W.

G & W. Just living skeletons & covered in sores

Wed Jan 5th  Went to Major Claffy - eyes on the

on Infra Red for feet.

A movement on to put Aussies in G & W.

Area - we have rough chance of staying

here - Japs had inspection of buildings

and grounds.

Sat 15 Jan  Quarantine period lifted in

G & W Area - foot started to swell up -

Hospital on Hygiene.

Had salmon rissoles for tea also meat pie.

being issued used to best advantage by cooks.

excellent - also 2 other shows. "Love on the

Dole" - and "Stardust"

Fri Mch 10  Cooks upat Gaol finished - indians

taken their place - more pictures to be

taken of Cricket Match & Church Services.

To-night

Between 10th Mch & 24 March the 

following have happened - A Visit 

from New Jap Commander

 

Major General Siato for whom we

waited 4½ hrs on the square - very 

little vegetable from the I.J.A.

Paid on the 17th - $1-20 - an issue of

Pork which we had roasted - 

and a 2 oz of Maize Corn a man per 

day - with a promise if available

the following scale of rations - 18 ozs

Rice & Beans a toothbrush - Powders

more oil - loincloth - overalls soap

sandshoes - some cigarettes that came

in were denied us as they had some

offensive wrting to the I.J.A.

Saw 2 shows "Love on the Dole" and

"Stardust" the first one good the 2nd

passable. Today the 24th the Provost

mob have taken Syd over for questioning

 - am reading The Way of a 

Transgressor" - Alex Smith in Hospital

Sat Mch 25  The move across the way is at last on

even our beds have to be left behind.

Mch 26th Sun  More maize  being distributed

a man will have to turn into a fowl

before long - a big shortage of vegetables

15 tons for the last moth - eating banana

skins as veg

Tues 28 Mch  No more guards after we

do this one - but I believe we have

to go to I.J.A Gardens for half a day.

Wed 29 Mch  First half a day started - 

not bad - some big Staff officer came

through the camp on inspection

Thurs Mch 30  Had 2nd ½ day down at

Garden -supposed to be paid today

& to move out some time to-morrow

Black Jacks ears should be burning

by all thats been said about him

& his 30th Battalion - Paid $1-30

Fri Mch31st  Everything out of the house by 11.30

moved over before lunch - got into hut 2-30

very cramped for room - no parade.

Sat April 1st  On I.J.A Garden ½ day - japs taken

over Guard on No 3 gate. all have

managed to rig themselves up with a bed

Sun April 2nd  Syd gets M.T a  & malaria -

more buildings to be taken by I.J.A on Guard

House side of road - so the "Gentlemen of Gemas"

will have to shift again.

Mon April 3rd  Rice Ration dropped 1½ ozs - meals 

are pretty good - meat 3 days running

Tues April 4  More moves in the air so furphy

has it - to Curran Camp this time

Wed April 5th  On Hugeine squad - meat in again

an hour on the garden each day

Thur April 6-16th  Given 3 oz Sugar as a present

Had an attack of Diarrhoea for 5 days

Cigars that were 1 cent have now been

priced at 10cts - Garlic $4-20 a lb - Our beds

were ordered to be handed up - to go

across to the side we left - but after a

bit of a strike we retained them - we

are to use Japanese Commands passing

gaurds. Tobacco is 90cts an oz

APRIL 16 

APRIL 16th Sat  Cigars 13cts each - Pains leaving stomac

APRIL 16th [[?]] All who were in the bed business

up before O.C. - some fined 28 days jap pay - I was

allowed off.

Sat 11 APRIL  Still on No Duties with bowell trouble

Tues 18th APRIL  Rumour mail in - Drome party increase

Wed 19       "          Mail confirmed 20 bags - a big reclassification

of light and No Duties to be taken to

Sine Road & be replaced by 700 from their - put

on party.

Thur 20 April  Put on Duties by M.O. - Frank taken

to A.G.H. xxx  with Dysentry - Party for Sime Rd put

off for 24 Hours - saw M.O. to be taken off Party

granted - now notified on a charge sheet.

Fri 21  Missed charge out on wiring party - got

some Tapioca root

Sat 22nd  Boys went into Sime Rd  - still on

were seven Engineers Back from Sime Rd - no 2/6th

Sun 23  Ted Bardelay died in A.G.H. - Officers

eating in our kitchen.

Mon 24th  Mail sortrs gone nup to Gaol - Dutch

moved in alongside us.

Tues 25th April  Anzac Day - weve all been notified

to move up to gaol by the 10th May - Gardens

to be stopped - Pork to come from AIF Piggery

Wed 26 April  Back on Hygeine - Drome

workers on 2 shifts now 8-9 - 2-8

Thur 27 APRIL  Put up to 3A - No mail in as yet

Fri 28 APRIL  Party of "F" FORCE  6 Trucks came in

Mulligan on it

Sat 29 APRIL  Drome work stopped for Eng.

Party of40 to work up on Gaol for shift

of huts - Another 13 trucks of Up Country

Sun 30 APRIL  Shoulder aching again of a night

Mon May 1st  Mail came into camp - none for me

notified pay to be 19cts to ORs. Had a fowl for 

tea with greens

Tue May 2nd  Had to shift out of our hut - to be

first pulled down - had a big feed to cook

2 Ducks Greens Spuds & Tapioca root  very

nice

Wed May 3rd  Pay day $2-30 - Got another duck

for a stew - more mail came in but missed again

Thur May 4th  Internees leaving Gaol & Sime Rd boys

coming in - Was on a trailer party up

rejoined unit - had more ducks for stew

still no letter - shifted again - back to

Selerang in Attup hut - 36 of the lads shifted

up to Gaol - 20 more bags of mail in -

bought 8 fowls & 4 ducks Haydn & Loveth

had a roast duck for tea - we were

shifted again - next door -

Sat May 11th-12  Had more Poultry for supper

Got 10 bucks off Sid - another 18 bags of

mail in - they say 15 ton of Red +

parcels also here. - not moving yet

looks like well get another week where

eating well at present.

May 13th-19th  Got job in Officers cookhouse

Syd did 150 bucks - mail in camp -

Still in house 159 -

May 20 - 24  Nothing for me in 1st Batch of letters

or 2nd or 3rd - 5 of the boys went up to the gaol

Jack Maskiell brought into Hospital
