Darling
T'was wonderful hearing
your dulcet but subdued tones last
eve. I hadn't of course the faintest
inkling that all was not well with
you as your letters had given no
indication of any trouble, you naughty
gal. I do so hope you will pick up
soon although a trammies life is
not so restful, is it? I have a
sneaking suspicion that you took it on
forced by circumstances. If it proves
tough do please chuck it and for the
Lord's sake, don't worry over financial
matters. I'm the right and only person
for you in good times and bad so if you
hang back I'll tan your hide when
I see you. Don't let your well-being be
2/
hazarded by work etc as surely between
us we've done our whack. Enclosed is
a tangible expression of what I mean
see, so no more of your scrimping, Puss.
Re leave, nothing definite yet but
with our clamor, should make it
soon. Am billeted with some grand
folks in Tranmere and they are feeding
me up like a good 'un. The mail
closes in a jiffy so must stop now.
As always, all my love, my
lovely lonely Sweetheart and you know
how I pray you'll carry on for a while
longer. The biggest of kisses, Kay
mine.

Darling Kay
Just a few lines written to
the beat of a tossing train. As
forecasted, I'm on my way to the
state I told you of, as far as I know.
Am writing this not far from
Melbourne to be exact Sunshine.
The swine are too cunning to go on
to Melbourne and we do a cross-
country hop from Sunshine so a chap
won't be getting home yet awhile.
No time for any lengthy
screed now as I've got to move but
will write as quickly as possible
after arrival. Should have
something more definite then. Give
Mum a ring when you get this please
pet. Cheerio for a coupla days.
Tons of love
Mick

Darling.
Having a spare moment, heres a few more
lines. Am departing from here tomorrow, but as far as
I know am not going so far as yet. Some good news
at last. Home leave started last evening and a batch
of our chaps went on last nights train. I unluckily was
not among the chosen but my turn should come soon.
At least, we've something more definite to go on now
so I feel a bit more cheerful as the prospect of seeing you
looms a shade larger. I went into Sydney yesterday to
see the big sister and missed the train home so by
the time I got back to camp my leave pass had
expired and I was nabbed. AWL. Consequently am not
so popular at HQ but I don't think they would hold my
home leave up when my turn comes. Must tell them
a convincing tale. It takes 2 hours or more to get
to Sydney and getting back in time is a problem.
I guess it will turn out O.K in the wash. Saw Jimmy
Poulton this morning and he took my breath away when
he told me he came across you on your tram. Accor
According to him you looked pretty bright. Nice work,
Sweetheart. I received your letter sent through Dorc
2/
and was pleased to see your scholarly hand once
more. As soon as we lob at our destination I'll
give you a further account of the current happenings
until that big day that comes nearer, and letters
must fill the bill. If I get a chance I shall ring home
one Sunday night and should have a good chance
of hearing your dulcet tones. I'm hanged if I can
settle down until I'm with you. The leave they gave
was 7 days not bad I suppose. Anyhow beggars
can't be choosers. Do you think you will be able to
get much time off? Do your best although I know
its a different proposition now about leaving your job.
Whatever happens will not waste a minute
It was a godsend having a sister over
here as Sydney is a huge barn for anyone without
friends and she and her friends gave me a swell time.
Well, Puss, must close now and have a bite.
Stand by for further news and in the meantime
all my love to you (we're still in love I reckon)
my darling, won't be long now. Cheerio
Mick
