Diary belonging to Archibald William Lawton Wookey, 1900-1901 - Part 5
Ft Tuli Nov 19/1900
Among the Daises she nestled
down
And plucked one tiny Bud
She peeped through her lashes -
of hazel brown
And its beautiful crimson hood
Then shaking the dew from its
bonny head
She lifted it up to her lips
And wispered his name with a
cheek as red
As the bloom on its fragant tips
I love, I love; and her voice grew
bland
As the breeze from the gentle
south
I love I love - but a strong brown
hand
Was laid on her smiling mouth
You love you love and the brown
hand twined.
Through the waves of her sunny
hair
Thy love Thy love sang the tell-tale
wind
Through the locks of the wispering
Pair
ww
We stood by the Shimmering Summer sea
you and I
And you wispered some old sweet words
to me
'Neath the [[?]] sky
Red sunset ^tints crept at the sand
As we lingered together. hand in hand
both to Part
for the light that was never on sea to land
shon in each heart
We stood once more by the shiny] sea
you & I
But you wispered its old sweet words to me
Neath the cloudy sky
the wind went sobbing along the ^sand
I shivered and felt no clasping hand
we met to part
And the shadows that deepened on sea & land
Fell on my heart
Pale pale are the rose lips sweet
Red is the heart of the rose
But red are the lips mine met
And your heart as white as the
snow
ww
For while the tired waves duly [[breaking?]] being
Seem here no painful wish to gain
Far out by crests and inlets waking
Comes silent flooding in the main!
Two souls with but a single
thought
Two hearts that beat as one
Two lovers on a path that
walk
And talk t so loving in
the sun
I really neither know nor care
What dress a parson ought to wear -
A black dress or a white dress
I have a grievance of my own -
A wife who preaches in a gown
And lectures in a night-dress

Words are to faint to tell
The good I wish for thee
May Summer near thee dwell
Wate'er the season be;
May gladness sound these
moments cling
And every year new
beauty Bring

From. G.R. To A.W.
Drink to me only with thine eyes
And I will pledge with
mine.
Oh leave a kiss within the cup
And I'll not ask for wine
The thirst that from the
soul doth rise.
Doth ask a drink divine;
But might I of Jove's nectar sup
I would not change for thine
