He met her in the meadow
when the sun was sinking low
They walked along together
in the twilight afterglow.
She waited until gallantly he'd
lowered all the bars.
Her soft eyes were bent upon him
As radiant as the stars.
She neither smiled nor thanked
him.
In truth she knew not how.
For he was but a farmers boy
And she - a jersey cow.

The floating crocodile is thought dead.

Strolling in the moonlight
And singing, happiness in our hearts
Should our love be broken during ^the walk,
It would be better to die than to live.

Moonlight, the stars also are shining.
I sit perplexed, thinking of my love.
Thinking of you who are far from my ^eyes
Until my heart leaves me.
The Dirty Old Yarra.
When Hitler broadcasted he wanted ^to fight,
There were thousands of Diggers who answered
alright.
[[?]] off to the transports their hearts full of ^glee,
And when they reached Egypt what sights they
did see,
They saw the old [[?]], the dirty old spot,
And the [[?]] whose [[?]] were all
flaming hot,
But the girls of old Melb will always
do me,
Where the dirty old Yarra flows
down to the Sea.
One morning in Paris, a girl says to me,
Parlez vous Francais, I answered "Oui Oui"
Poules vous Promenade avec moi" said she,
"Too right" I said Sweetie how much will it ^be."
You never [[?]] girlie so clearly before,
When she said "50 francs" I made straight
for the door
You can get it for 6d an hour says me
Where the dirty - - - - sea.
One evening the Capt said Sgt Muldoon
You will take charge of the [[?]] ^[[?]]
Go over the top so the old Col wish,
And if you succeed you may get your ^commish
I may bet my commish i said like hell
I may be a corpse flattened out by
a shell.
You can tell the old Col. that I'd
rather be,
Where the dirty - - - - sea.
One morning in Hampshire , I met
Farmer Giles,
Who asked me if I knew a cure for ^the piles.
I said get some turpentine & mix
it with glue,
And sprinkle some mustard & pepper
on too,
Then when your all ready, just
bend o'er a spot,
And get your old [[?]] to slip
it in hot,
I hope Farmer Giles will never
meet me,
Where the dirty - - - - - sea.
Now you've all heard the tale of
Mamselle Camembert
Who hadn't been frisky for [[?]] odd year
Don't you believe all the tales you
are told,
That naughty old lady is both haughty
& bold.
She will spend all your money &
drink all your rum,
And give her 10 francs & she will
tickle your [[chin?]]
But the girls of old Melb. will
always do me,
Where the - - - - - sea
