Dear Old Smithy,
Hope you got home alright, and had a
decent trip down. did your mother think at you
looked better; or still half starved, remember me to
yo Mrs Smithenbecker & Bub.
Don't know whether you will hear from me very regularly
or not will try & do the weekly effort, which will
consist of about four lines badly written but the
thought will be there.
No news, because we aren't allowed to tell you any, its
a great pity because I could almost write an intelligent
letter; this time.
Tell matron I will write next mail to her; what did
she say when you told her that you are quite strong
physically, not mentally ?
If you are writing anytime to  Sharpy tell her
haven't forgotten to write & will do so. some
time in the near future also to Mrs Bolton because
I can't remember whether I thanked her for her wire or not.

2.
By the way am on night duty at the moment.
don't like it think how often I have been in the
last year; not as though it worries me in the slightest
Give my love to the rest of the kids & hope young
Harris has recovered from the mumps.
Did the photos turn up alright - or are they pretty
putrid, I hope matron will appreciate it.
Cheerio
Buddy,
PS. Remember me to poor old Rose or has she
got her holidays, but I wouldn't give her this letter
to read as it may irritate her. Love to Morris & Dot.
