Dear Sir,
JUN 18 1943
This Head-Quarters has received advice from
Overseas Headquarters, Royal Australian Air Force, that a
carton containing certain personal effects of your late son,
Sergeant W. A. Allsopp, was lost in transit from Royal Air
Force Station, Linton- on-Ouse, to Royal Air Force Central
Depository. The following is a brief history of the action
taken in regard to recovery of the carton.
3.8.42 Two cartons containing personal effects
were despatched from Royal Air Force,
Linton-on-Ouse to Central Depository.
9.9.42 Central Depository advised the station
that one carton had not been received,
and requested confirmation that two had
been despatched. This was confirmed by
Royal Air Force Station, Linton-on-Ouse.
3-10.42 Royal Air Force Station, Linton-on-Ouse
advised Central Depository that the
Railway Company acknowledged having
received two cartons and was instituting
enquiries in an effort to trace the
missing one.
21.11.42 Central Depository asked Linton-on-Ouse
if any reply had been received from the
Railway Company in regard to the search
being made, as otherwise it would be
necessary to lodge an official claim for
recovery of their value.
22.12.42 A claim vas submitted by Central Depository
against the Railway Company for £5.

19.1.43 The Railway Company advised Central Depository
that as the first complaint of non-delivery
was not made within the prescribed period of
28 days, the claim must be declined under the
Standard Terms and conditions of Carriage.
The matter was first reported to Royal Australian
Air Force Overseas Headquarters, on 16th February, 1943, when
fuller details were at once requested from Central Depository
which were supplied on 25/2/43.
The above information is forwarded to you to
enable you to consider whether you wish to make a claim against
the Royal Air Force.
Certain personal effects of your son have already
been shipped to Australia and you will be advised immediately
they have been received.
Yours faithfully,
M C Langslow
(M.C. Langslow)
SECRETARY.
