Hello darling
No there hasn't been any mail, and there's very
little news, but I just feel like writing and saying
hello. Wait on though - there was some news: listen
to this! Saturday night I came home to find a
telegram for me. And who do you think it was
from? Bullethead! This is how it read - "Happy
hear Max released hope returns safely soon regards
Bullethead." Mac, wasn't that nice of him to
send that? Dear old Bullethead - after such a long
time of hearing no news of him too. It was sent from
St Pauls - but I can't for the life of me think where
that is. I rang your mother & told her, but she was able
to tell me some further news of McCosker. He was engaged
to a girl from Randwick two weeks ago! So I have a
job to-night. Will have to write & thank Bullethead
& congratulate him upon his engagement. Crumbs, I feel
as if he was a long lost friend. Oh well he's your
friend, so that makes it natural to feel that way.
This crazy Betty is on the bed behind me, singing
at the top of her voice. She sends her love, but I'm
reducing it down to her regards - you're rations.
She's still giving cheek, darling, and barracking
for you with all her might.
Mummie's yelling at me to come to tea so I'd
better go. But before I do go Mac - come over here while
I whisper something - I love you an awful lot, sweet.
And I'm hoping to see you very soon. And in between
this and that day - a letter please, would make
me feel sky-high. Take care of yourself Mac dear.
May God bring you safely back to me. All my
Love Mac - Dorothy

Hello Darling,
Well and how is the sweetest girl in the world going, I beg your pardon, did
I hear you say dont be sloppy, you would be taking a risk if you said that again. Dot
You know darling I feel a bit guilty this is only my second letter and I only posted my
first to-day. Yesterday I received 3 telegrams I opened the first one and it was from mother
then I had a look at the next, and it was from a friend (not a fraulein) so I was feeling
pretty good when I started to open the next cause there was only one person it could be from,
well anyhow it was just as well there were no cats about because I would certainly have
kicked them, you see I was wrong , once again yes I know, anyhow to-day after being sour
all day I got the cable & 3 letters , and am I pleased, just ask me sometime. Oh yes before I
forget the answer to your question is No does that put your mind at ease sweet, and you can
tell your smart friends, that they can take all there frauleins and go jump in a lake with
them, Im savage now, hear me growl. So you have allowed me 4 long months to get home
darling, lets see now, [[redacted]] will
see us to-gether. Talking about boats dont you forget your instructions, dont go near it
not even just to have a look from the distance, if you come within a mile of it I'll
spot you, and that would spoil everything darling, its not that I dont want to see you
there is no one I want to see more, but its got to be just you and I darling, just for that once, you'll do that for me wont you, whats a few hours when it means, we will be able to have each other
all to ourselves, when I meet you I dont want to share that pleasure with anyone but you,
its the meanness comi
open the door Dot I'm just a bundle of nerves now. I came back off my leave early, so there
is no more to tell you other than what was in my last letter, a little bird told me to duck back
and I might be lucky, and I might too, so I hope you have those fingers crossed, you have good.
I'll have all my fun when Im with you darling, Ill get more pleasure out of being with you
than I would ever find over here. So you want to know if I have any troubles, yes darling I
have one but what a beautiful one it is I wouldnt part with it not for anything, but I wonder
if you could tell me darling how I could make this trouble of mine say yes to a question I keep asking, she just ignores me now, and Im just about stumped, Poor old Betts in trouble
again huh, never mind darling, if I ever am really lucky she can come and stay with
us when she gets into trouble, or can she, I was forgetting your not to sure of me yet are you darling, I never had any frauliens honest, Would you like to know something darling Im
very much in love with Mrs Williams daughter Dorothy and just not interested in
anyone else, not that anyone else would want me to be, but just had someone kid for
this once, it would still make no difference to us would it. By the way did you get the flowers
ok, I sent them just because. I hope you have some of my matches left for me, sorry I mean
ready, also my letters that you have been keeping for me, how many have I got darling
lots, and another thing Dorothy. A. what's it stand for come on now you have been hold
ing out much too long already, tell you what Ill do, I bet you a shilling you dont like
it, thats the only possible reason you could have for holding out on so long. It doesnt
matter if it was the worst name you could think of Id still love you just as much as
I already do, and thats a lot believe me, do you? You know darling it might be a wise move
if you can get them to wear steel corsets on our night, make sure I dont break any bones when I
hug you I got a lot of hugs to catch up on you know, and I told you before once I get these arms
around you there will be no getting away, you'll be lucky if I let you go again at all, I wont want
to. Look darling Ive been writing this letter in bits and pieces, for the last two days, you see Ive
had to do a lot of running about, and I may have to finish it at any time, I cant tell you why
sweetheart you'll hear all about that later on, but if I have to cut it short all of a sudden you'll
understand wont you. At present I dont know whether Im coming or going, and Im feeling a bit
excited you see Im setting out to keep a few dates I made once upon a time, I hope you can under-
stand all this trash darling, never mind darling, you dont mind that word darling do you, where
was I now, oh yes! with a bit of luck Ill see you for my birthday so keep the fingers crossed.
still. Well darling it looks as though Ill have to finish off I still have a lot to do, and
not much time to do it in, besides Ive got to get this letter away. Best wishes to all and
once again dont forget your instructions, all my love darling, Ill deliver it personally
soon. Cheerio for now , Mac X

My darling,
Sometimes I wonder if there is any end to your
sweetness and thoughtfulness. I wish you could have
seen how beautiful your flowers are, and you'll just
have to imagine how thrilled I was at receiving them.
It was the loveliest thought darling, and it made me
feel so happy.
They're in my bedroom now - the pink sweetpeas next
to my bed and beside your photograph, and the pale
& dark pink carnations at the foot of my bed. There
was holly in the box and it looks so pretty against
the cream wall in my room. Couldn't possible squeeze
any more flowers in the room so so I put the tawny
coloured crysanthemiums out in the lounge-room.
The orchid I took to work and set it up on my
desk. It was the loviest green orchid and it looks
quite out of place on my desk but then - its beaut
to be able to look at it and remember you sent it
to me.
I felt sure, when I read the card in the box, that you
had cabled Searls to send them to me, so when I
got into work this morning I phoned Searls &
checked. They said the cable came from Dundee
in Scotland. And does that mean you're having
a holiday; leave, rest, or what have you, in Scotland?
Gee darling, I certainly wish I could get a letter
from you, so I could know what is really
going on over there. The papers say you'll all be
home within the next few months, but I feel you
could tell me more than just that.
Still - I guess I can wait awhile longer for a
letter Mac - but not too much longer I hope.
