Dearest Dot,
Hullo darling we are well on our way into the New Year now, I wonder how
much of this one we will be forced to waste Dot not much I hope I miss you darling and
Im getting worse. How are you Dot no more horse kicks or skin complaints, Im a
useless sort of a boy friend to have, all I do is give you a lot of worry and trouble, and when
I should be there to comfort you, Im missing, I wish I could do something for you Dot any-
thing at all as long as I was pleasing you, maybe I wouldnt feel so helpless then, its no
good getting a letter saying Im sick with this complaint etc and not knowing whether you
are getting better or whats going on I wouldnt mind if I was there to see whats going on.
This is my third attempt to write this letter darling, funny that I should find it hard to write to
you of all people, it must be that I love you so very much and cant say what I want to because
you wont let me. I have finally managed to get a photo for you Dot, the other chap is a Kiwi
friend of mine. Time is dragging this year Dot its only a little over a month since I
last heard from you and yet it seems twice as long and it must be years since Ive had
a snap, letters and snaps they are all very nice to get but there is only one thing that
will satisfie me, and thats you. Im not very cheerful darling am I how are you Dot
let me see know when you receive this your chillblanes will be starting to trouble you.
[[?]] or have you got rid of them by now. Have you been doing any skating lately
Dot; I tried a bit the other day and Im worce than I used to be. I cant seem to get interested in
anything these days, Dot; I hope you like the photo, I am not as thin as I look there so dont go
worrying about me Im in the pink. Don't forget to write and let me know whats what darling
what your thinking etc all about you I like those letters sweet just about you or us thats
all give my best wishes to everyone once more and look after yourself just for me
wont you darling and remember I love you and always will Cheerio Love Mac

My Dearest Dot;
Well darling at long last another letter, written the day after your birthday. Dot say
was it good to get; true to form I misjudged it once again and so my letters for that day were
late. I didn't rap you over the knuckles to hard hard in my letter darling did I not enough to
hurt; I wouldn't want to ever do that; but Im a bit stupid at times, its just that; what the use
I cant explain in this Dot all I can say is I love you miss you, and at times it just gets the
best of me, see what you do by holding out on me, I think I will have to take your advice Dot and
put you across my knee, then take you by the arm and say now lets go, down to your Church
and straighten things out a bit, do you reckon Id have any success that way darling You know
sweet it took me as long to get past the first three words in your last letter as it did to read the
rest, wishful thinking on my part; but there it is, you know me , give me an inch and a [[nickel]]
is darling, see how you can get yourself misunderstood Dot just a your, or a mate, here and there
and the damage is done, then again maybe you meant it for me, I wonder. How are you
keeping Dot, everything going alright, no complaints, things are much the same here not a
bit of interesting news for you, myself Im as fit as a fiddle and have only one complaint you
know what that is, don't you. I hope you get my mail ok but don't worry if you miss out Dot
for a bit of it is bound to go astray, Ill be able to tell you all about it myself soon anyhow Dot
you know the painting I had for you, well the chap who was bringing it home arrived on the
[[?]] so if you haven't got it by this I guess its lost, still it wasn't much good anyhow, pretty
poor for a birthday present. Believe me or not; now look at that I didn't mean to write that at all
Im getting worce every day, but as I was going to say its taken me two and a half hours to write
this last half of this letter, its hard to believe I know, but how can you write when you cant say
the only things you want to, you just about have me beat darling you wont let me say what
I want to. Still one of these days you wont be able to stop me. "Cheerio" All my Love Mac

Hullo darling,
What will we talk about to-night? There hasn't been any
mail from you this week, so it will have to be a one-way
conversation again- but anyhow, lets' go. At work, it's been a
terrific week Mac, and to make matters worse I've had a cold
into the bargain. I really need a holiday I know, but I want
to wait awhile yet. Can't seem to get into the holiday mood, strange
as it may seem. Developing into a career woman? No, I don't
think I could ever be one of those - I like my bed too much of
a morning 'fraid. Darling, Ive' had a wonderful day to-day, Norma
and George (he's home!) have taken a [[hoya]] flat at Cronulla &
Mum & Dad & I went down there for the day. The sun was
glorious. Got a beaut tan - not sunburn though. We swam
in the morning and most of the afternoon - I would have
stayed in longer but my eyes became sore with the cold & the
salt water so I hurried up to the house and dressed. For
about an hour before tea we walked along the promenade
admiring the gardens. Back to the house then, for tea,
after which we settled down and listened to the Lux
Radio Show. Apart from the blessed mosquitoes - that was
the nicest part of the whole day. We could watch the moon on the
water from our windows and Mac it was so very beautiful.
As the waves would break along the the shore, the moon would
gleam on the crest of each, turning it to gleaming mercury.
Oh gosh darling, I had a way thorough attack of the
blues at one stage. I seemed to drift away from the room
and was way out there somewhere in the moonlight, trying
to get nearer to you. For that was what I wanted,
To have your arms around me and to know you weren't
ever going away again. Well, it was nice dreaming anyway.
Even if the disappointment of awakening was inevitable.
Mac sweet, how are you? I'm worried about you dear-
more worried than Ive' been for ages. I hope you're
getting enough food and clothing; that's all. So near to
the end of it as we are - do take care of yourself my sweet.
And don't you dare to say I'm silly because I worry either!
Not a bit of it - I can't help worrying, so thats' that. You
haven't told me how much you love me - not for a whole
week. Oh go on - make it two arms full, then you'll
be equal to me. 'Cause you know something: I love you
too - how about that! No more teasing to-night sweetheart; I
must away to bed afore my eyelids shut tight. But I wasn't
fooling when I said I love you. I meant it sweet! You be
good Mac- x love me about an inch more each day eh? Your
Dorothy
