Letters of David Francis Smith, July 1941- February 1942 - Part 6

.5.
it is even harder now to write
than before the balloon went up.
Guess you are right about
the Malaya Militia, it was [[?]]
didnt take much to change it
either.
Am rather amused about
people there having their cases
etc packed, and think they have
started to pack any here yet. I do
wish you wouldnt do any
worrying about me. I'll be O.K.
so get around a bit & enjoy
yourself, you & Myrtle seem
to be good company for each
other, keep it up.
I too so hope that your
cable reaches Bill in time, cant
recall the incident you refer
so ^of mine this time last year.
We just received our increase

arrived knew him rather well,
according to him Bert never
had any intention of joining,
reckoned he wasnt such a
mug, I wonder? those blokes
may have a good excuse, but
I doubt it very much.
Would just love to Jess
my opinion on what hair style
of yours, its always a fav answer
of min, reckon at the present
moment if you had it shared,
it wouldnt worry me any.
Well Darling I cant find
any news to tell you for the
present, so Id better [[clue?]] up, I
do love & miss you more than
ever.

My Darling Rene
Just a few lines
to let you know that I'm O.K,
& still getting along pretty well And
this finds you & all at home
in the best of health, & that
you are still able to knock
out a fair of a [[ ]]
Things are still very much
the same here with nothing
very startling in our locality
other than we miss out on
a bit of sleep these days
generally manage to get
pulled out of bed between
2 & 4 am, see a decent display
.2.
of lights & crackers now & then,
but they are a fair way away
from us.
The weather. here of late
has been very decent, no rain
& not too hot, its nearly pleasant,
guess the climate down home
right now would be ideal,
tennis should come right into
its own, you don't give it
a mention, hope you haven't
turned it in, am looking forward
to a few arguments in that
direction on my return.
I wrote a few times to
Ella the other night, found
it pretty hard, not much I
could talk about, with a
bit ofpuck I may be able
to answer Ellabels also this
mail.

Glad that book summed up,
would give you an idea of what
the place is like, even if it is
glorified a little, reckon I share
your views with regard to the
"Beaty", would take me a long
while to think so at any rate.
Yes Hon the watch is still
going fine, & do I hope it wont
be long before I'm handing that
Boomerang back to you.
Well Ximas isn't so far oof
now, can't say that I'm looking
forward to it as much as last
year, there's going to be something
missing, & for me that will
take out the "X".
Pleased to hear that Bill
is still getting along ok, things
are starting to move over in that
part of the Globe, & our pals seem
.4
often wonder just how long.
That Psalm you sent will
be a keepsake, have read that
a few times.
The cutting you sent of Ian
Thatchett, turned out to be rather
ironic, what a bad blow that
lot was, I thought it impossible.
Have got over my cold etc,
& am quite O.K again now,
it didn't hang on like my usual
run of them, wish I could accept
your off of muse.
Yes your memory is rather
good, I spent a very pleasant day
at Coraman in the way back
from Darwin, I do feel very sorry
for [[ ]] Warhurst, more especially
with Bill being away.
Another copy of our journal
has been published, it is quite
5.
an improvement in the previous
issues as it went through a
publisher this time & is rather
well got up, will forward your
copy just as soon as I get hold
of me.
Reckon Hon that you should
put that request of mine in black
& white, what about it.
Haven't yet had our increase
in pay, should do so by the
next, reckon that you would
have had yours by this.
Am very pleased with your
opinion of the 6 yrs, & the wish
that it won't be long before we
are starting all over again.
Afraid I'm still in trouble
with those Tatts of mine, havent
had a chance to get them fixed
& don't know when I will in
5.
Should imagine that, that
Atlas you got from the Sun,
gets a fair bit of use these days days.
We have rather a decent
Wireless Set these days, get the
world on it, heard a broadcast
from our friends over here, reckoned
we had been wiped out,
something like that cutting
you sent me.
Well Darling I'm afraid
its the usual cry, can't find
anything to write about, so I'd
better give up. I Love & miss
you more than ever.
Cheerio
With all my Love & Kisses
Frank xxxxxxx
Regards to all at home
I like the way you finish, thank Love
