My Darling Rene,
Just a few lines to let you know
that I am O.K, & still in the land of the living,
hope this finds you & all at home in the best
of health.
Missed out on a letter from you
on Saturday, maybe I'll pick up one or two
today.
Things are still the same here with
nothing startling has happened since I last wrote, &
seeing I haven't a letter to answer this one is
going to be a bit of a struggle.
Had my first game of Rugby on Sunday
& I might add its my last, its certainly pretty rough,
& knowing nothing about the rules didnt help any.
Noel & I went to the pictures on
Sunday night, saw William Powell & Myrna Loy,
in "Love me Again", the name of it didnt sound
so hot but it was a real good comedy & I
enjoyed it very much, was only the one picture.
The first half being all short, one of them about

will ever get it. He would certainly have plenty
to see on that leave he had would be more
interesting than here.
They had a fair bit of trouble here this
last few days with the Tamil Labour in the
plantations, started to look a bit serious. 3 or 4
of them were killed, seems to be all finished now
& most of them have gone back to work.
Well Sweetheart I'm afraid I cant find
any news to tell you for the present, so I'd
better clue up.
"Cheerio"
With all my Love & Kisses.

My Darling Rene,
Received your most welcome letter this
afternoon, glad to hear that you & all at home are O.K.
I'm getting along fairly well, but its still very
hot, rather envy you people sitting up to the fire
these days, havnt had any rain for four or five days
now, they reckon there is a drought on.
Had a good day out yesterday
went down to a seaside to play another unit
football, had a good swim in the morning, &
started the match about 4 PM, it was still pretty
hot then too, we were beaten by five goals, they
were easily the best side that we have met, as
usual I never got anymore than half a dozen
kicks, but didnt collect any knocks either, so that
was something. They have very nice barracks,
a picture show 6 night a week, tennis courts &
get plenty of swimming. Met quite a few chaps
we knew on the boat coming over, also one
joker I knew in Geelong, he used to work
for Bull & Owens.

Re that friend of mine going south, think now
that you very likely wont hear from him, I dont
know what happened, but I'll tell you I'm terribly
disappointed that he didnt get in touch with you,
believe he met Bob's wife in Melbourne, & she thought
he was rather a good scout.
We dont seem to be in the race to spend
a few days at that cousin of Robbies, it appears that
if you didnt go to Singapore, you dont get any leave
at all. Quite a few of the troops have been to Singapore
on leave & have had a rather decent time, they say that
goods there are very cheap down that way, so it looks
the obvious place to buy anything.
Received your letter No. 31 this afternoon,
will be answering it Thursday cant find
any news to tell you for the present.
"Cheerio"
With all my Love & Kisses

Regards to all at home.

My Darling Rene,
Received your most welcome letter on
Saturday, pleased to hear that you & all at home are
in the best of health
We are still getting ^on fairly well here,
went & had a look at the races on Saturday, it
was a good afternoon, & was a decent outing, didnt
try to back any winners. had a few sweep tickets
with the usual result.
A chap took me out on Sunday
to have a look over a tin dredge, was very interesting
& seems to be quite a fair bit in it, I fell for the
usual stunt, trying to lift a bucket of tin, it packs
in pretty tight. He took me to the first show of
the pictures at night, "This thing called Love", it dosnt
sound so hot, but it was a good show, got a few laughs
out of it.
The war has taken a decent turn
this time, will be interesting to see what the next
few weeks or so bring.
So you are getting a fair share of storms

that cash, the Commercial Bank should be able
to give you a draft, Canteen orders wouldnt be any
good at all, as they make you cut them out.
Seemed a queer coincidence you saying that
the show you say the other night was "The Letter",
well maybe you'll remember, some people entertained
us the other night, as we were passing the goal
this chap told us he would tell us a story,
that picture you say was it, it was centered
around this particular district, same goal, it appears
that the Author came up here for a holiday, &
wrote a book around the case, this chap told us
that they had since produced the picture, it seemed
funny you striking it; would be about the same
time as I heard about it, hoped you liked our
scenery, afraid I'm getting a little tired of it,
Swan Bay is more in my line
Was sorry when I saw those cuttings where
those boys were missing, was hoping that it was only
a rumour.
Well Sweetheart I cant find any more news
to tell you at present, will answer this letter I
just received on Thursday.
I do miss you every bit as much as you
say you do me, all I have to look forward to is getting
back
