Letters of David Francis Smith, January-June 1941 - Part 2

has turned out just that way.
Well Darling I can't find any
news to tell you, & I'm not sure just
how much I can say at present, &
as I've only been on a few hours, I
haven't had much of a chance, I
want to post this just as soon as I
can.
There are quite a few launches
buzzing around here at present, calling
our names etc, not much fear of
me hearing mine.
Am afraid I will have to
close this off Darling, hard to say
how I feel about going away & just
how much I'm going to miss you,
but here's hoping love that it wont
be for very long, so Im just saying
cheerio for the present,
With all my love & kisses
Frank xxxxxx
Regards to all at home.
Hope I get a copy of the photo of you &
I, hope I didn't spoil it as usual.
5.
Thought that I would be
able to post this yesterday, but
I stand a chance of getting it
off today.
See how you wouldn't dream
of a place like this, never seen
anything like it in my life, its
a city in its own. And the meals
& service is as good as Menzies,
have about [?] in the Sgt Mess.
So seeing that I have to go I'm
glad it this lovely, might as
well be the best..
Had a great sleep lass
night, went to bed at 8 pm, &
died until 6 this morning.
This embarkation is a
well organized business, & is certainly
a great experience.
My guess as to where we
are going is right, so thats not so
bad is it Sweetheart.
Will close this now, hope
you & Mabel have a good time
& look after yourselves.
Written on side of page
Here's hoping that I'll be making a return trip
on this boat very shortly, so will say cheerio
for the present.
All my love,
Frank

My Darling Rene,
Just a few lines to
let you know that I'm OK, hope
this finds you & all at home in
the best of health etc.
I thought that I
may have had a letter from you
forwarded from Bathurst, but missed
out, hard to say just when Im
likely to get one now, but hope
that it wont be very long.
You would very likely
get a surprise in getting my last
letter.
Things are going pretty fair
with us here, having a good trip,
but still can't find my way about
very well, get bushed every tick
of the clock.
Was very pleased that you
were not over here when we left,
was a big pile of launches etc.

around the boat all the time, people
trying to get a last look or perhaps
a word, that wouldn't be so good
for wither of us would it.
Haven't met anyone aboard yet
that I know, can't be many from
down around home, thought that
[?] would be in with us.
How are things going down
there with you, how are you putting
in the time. Did Mabel hear
any more of that job, & what is the
latest news of Bill.
Am anxiously waiting
to hear how those photos of ours are
hope they turned out alright, you
wont forget to send me one.
Dont know whether I told you
or not, but I got my tobacco
pouch back, they knew who it
belonged to.
Well Sweetheart, its pretty
hard to write a letter, as there is not
much scope, I better close up
Love to all at home.
Maybe I'll pick up a letter from
you in a few days time so perhaps
I'll be able to write a little more next time
"Cheerio"
With all my Love & Kisses
