Pilgrimage Party to AIF Cemetery & is a Battn

Parade, as on 15/1/42 AIF first Contacted the Japs. 2/30 Bn

& on 18/1/42 - 2/16 Bn Met them. The Cemetery is a

Credit to the lads who look after it as the Graves

are in rectangles of 8 bodies neatly edged & covered

with Grass & on top of each Grave is a Cement Cross

bearing the Name Rank & Unit in Black Enamel & the

Number stamped on a Brass Plate in the Centre. On entering

the Cemetery a lawn by the Side of the Road & a

large Board AIF Cemetery across the entrance. The

place is very clean & raked daily. Lunch Rice & Veg

Soup Potatoe Chips. Nothing to do all evening & as it rained

had meal upstairs. Tea Rice Veg Soup & Sweet Cocoanut

Cake. A Trailer accident proved unlucky for Lieut

Sullivan (Broken arm?) Joe Roach (Head Injury) & 9

others One of them a Spinal Injury? After Parade
went to Church at Con Depot & then to Community Singing

Breakfast Rice & Veg Soup. No Work in the morning

so watched & scored Cricket 2/26 v 27th Bde. A Win

for 2/26 Bn. Lunch Rice & Veg Soup. 2 Hrs Drill in 

evening as preparing for 26.1.43 (Foundation Day)

& while a parade a Jap called in & 10 minutes

after we were broken off. Tea Rice & Veg Soup &

a Bully Rice Ball. Java Weed has been Scarce

& a large line up at the Canteen Am going

to the Change of Concert tonight

have a duty collecting 6 & 7ft lgths cocoanut

Palava which lasted us all morning Lunch

Rice & Veg Soup with Spinach. No Marching in

the evening so I played Bridge. Cannot

buy Palm Oil It is Vitamin B & makes

meals very tasty & builds you up. The

Canteen has been out of it for 3 or 4 days

Tea Rice & Sweet Soup (Cocoanut & Gula) & a

Veg Cake (Curried). Went to the Con Depot

& listened to a Quiz on Education &

Sport & they asked the same of the Pony

who broke the World's High Jump in 

1935 & for a minute I couldn't think of

Johnny Graham. Also permission to speak over wireless

very light on lately. Parade at 11.30. I 

suppose it is Drill. Our Drill is correct. Lunch

Rice & Veg Soup Nothing to do all evening so played

cards Tea Rice & Veg Soup & a Sweet Cake. Went & listened

to the Concert & was very good.

Watched the Racing for a while & then went

A High Japanese Officer is going to inspect the Area
& we have to keep in our Barracks between
9.30AM – 1.PM & cannot look out as the Japs
do not like anyone looking down at them
so I have a few jobs of my own to do here.

in the evening & Played Bridge Tea Rice

Debate on Great Men & was very interesting

Brigade Parade celebrating Foundation. Order
of the March 27th Bde HQ. 2/26 BN 2/29 BN 2/30 BN Formed
on the ground (Selerang Square) in Review Order.
Lt Col Cappy (Brig Comm) Called the parade to
Attention & called General Salute & Lt Col Gallagher took
it with the Union Jack flying over his head. March
Past was won by 2/56 Bn although all Battns marched
very well. Lunch Rice & Veg Soup & a Bully Cake. Played
Contract Bridge all evening & was very enjoyable.

& got me out of a Wood Party. Lunch Rice & Veg
Soup. On Salt Water Party & Went to the Beach
Had a great Swim & Notice Japs are on the Water
front. About 10 Chinese were using a Fish
Net. They use Rope about 1,000 yds on each
end of a 4-500 yd net & pull it into
land by hand, taking it out by a
canoe. The large 15” Gun is still there &
I think the Japs are working on it. Tea

in a month or two. Fighting in Malaya & Russians doing
Well & also Big Naval Battle a Success for the Allies. I wonder
what is right. On the Detention Board they have marked
up. Detention 23. AWL. 2 Total 25. Fancy being AWL
in a P.O.W. Camp. I get my Dissentry needle today (the Second)

as much rice as you can eat. Home 5.30pm. Tea
Rice & Veg Soup & a Rice Cake with Bully Beef on it. Saw
Jack MacLelland & went to bed early. Last Night at
the AIF Concert the Lads Booed & Jeered B. Jack & he abused
them. Now A.I.F Concerts are off for 3 nights. Also refused
lads permission to go to Southern Area to see 11 Div (Pommies)
Concert which (I believe) is pretty good. Ernie Maddison
came out of Hospital with Malaria & is pretty
pale on it.

at Brigade Dance which had some of the lads dressed
as girls & real amusing.

it. (So they Say) Revielle 7.15AM & after going
on Parade it was cancelled before we marched
off. Read all morning xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
till 11.45AM & then on Parade for the Japs.
The Parade was actually Proper Gander as they had
1 Coy of Nips with their Flag flying behind them
& looked as if it was another Capitulation somewhere
for Nippon & we were 10 cts movie stars with NO
dinner. The show finished 5. PM & left us 9 hours
without a meal Lunch Rice & Veg Soup. Another
Jap Parade & Tea at 8.30.pm. Tea Rice & Veg Soup
& 1 Sweet Cake. Went for a walk & saw Cess Toll
who is at the Con Depot.

in it 1tin between 60 Men & 1 Sweet Cake. Going
over to Cecil Toll or to see Jack McLelland. Rumours

home did a bit of washing Cooking Sweet & Biscts

Brigade Concert & was very good. Also went to
2/12th Engineers to See Mick Deagon & found out
he was caught outside & is now in Changi Gaol
They haven't heard anything about him. Rumours

a Ct Marshal for selling woollen Pullovers to the
Bhongs. Tea Rice & Veg Soup & Fish Ball. Went to
Church. Then to bed early Rumours Red Cross
ship in on 25th Played Bridge & was beaten.

Breakfast. Rice & Veg Fish Soup. Nothing to do all morning &
was told by Mack that the Pommys whose ship was
sunk by a raider & came here 10 days ago that Rostov
fell 7 weeks ago. Rumours about Red Cross Ships &
Mail at Changi Jail are Bunkum I think. Lunch
Rice & Veg Soup On Wood Trailer Party this evening
for Wood. Passed the Women & Children from
Changi Jail & they don't look too bad on it.
They were escorted with Sielks with Fixed
Bayonets & the lads were Passing Remarks
"Who are the Dark Handsome men with you &
to a Blonde." It must be hard to get Peroxide Now
Tea Rice & Veg Soup & a Iced Cake. Went to
the A.IF Concert as it is change of Programme
A Corporal made up a March & called it
Black Jack & wasn't too bad The Concert
was fair. Nothing out of the Bag.
