my letters Dot but you dont want to be surprised at anything I say, Im
liable to say many things that may seem queer to you. Well Dot wish
everyone all the best for me sweet. Big Cheerio All my love, Mac

Dearest Dot; 25th Feb 1943
Another two letters from you last week one March the other April
I bet that will get you thinking hard to remember what you put in them, they are
both boat mail. It seems you are always talking to someone or other about me. Im
blowed if I know what you talk about. I certainly dont know how you can read my
letters over and over, I thought it would take you all your time to read them
through once, if they were only half as good as your own I could understand it. My
word you certainly are finding out things darl, Ill have to write to Mother and tell
her not to tell you so much that you are getting jealous of my ribbons etc besides
its not fair, of course I cold write to your Mother and tell her to tell me all about you
that is except when you used to chase Harold around trying to kiss him. I know
that one, I hope you dont do that now, you know one of my worst faults is Im a
very jealous natured person. I dont only like cats sweet I like all animals, but Im
not so very fond of that dog of yours. the only time I ever got near him, he was dead
set on having a piece of my leg. Funny how it always crops up if your not
worrying I am, don't anymore Dot its unnecessary nothing will happen to me,
when I come back Ill be the same as when I left. So we have a day on the river
to add to our list, whats the name of this river darling and who's going up to this
certain spot you know of just you an I sweet, I hope so I hate crowds even at
parties. Yes I still have all your photos though the large one you had done for me
just before I left is a little worse for wear Im looking at it that much, these
photos are very important to me Dot Id be lost without them. I hope you are getting
my mail ok Dot Wish everybody all the best for me once more now dont forget
no worrying, just spend your time looking after yourself for me, and dont tell me
I do more worrying than you I know. Cheerio again Always All My Love Mac

Hullo Mac dear,
What's news? Been behaving yourself as I'm
always telling you? That's a good boy. Now tell
me all about yourself and what you've been doing.
The weather must be improving over there about
the time this letter reaches you. Roughly, how
long do my letters take Mac? I suppose they get
over there in anything from three to four months,
do they? I have even had a letter in about two
and a half months - but that's the shortest time.
And I still haven't had a letter in three months.
What's more, it's getting me down. (Dad just called
in to ask me to give you his kindest regards. I
told him that I always do send regards from both
Mum and him but this time I was to mention
it specifically he said.) We have just returned home
after being in town to see the Macquarie show. You
know the Lux shows on the radio of a Sunday
evening, well this is the same type of thing. Of
course I always enjoy the radio presentation better
than seeing in acted on the stage in front of the
microphone, it's much more realistic that way.
I can visualise the whole thing. Watching them talk
into a microphone is rather disappointing. However
it is interesting so add that onto our list sweet and
make it a date huh? I wonder when we will
get to work on that listin? Won't it be fun darling,
ticking off the places one by one. Don't think I
mean writing out a list, getting the pencil and
marking the places though. We'll be able to
remember without that! Your photo is here
in front of me darling, and I keep asking it
all sorts of questions but you won't even smile
back at me, no matter how hard I try. What
would you suggest? Don't bother saying to try
kisses - that doesn't work either. Gosh Mac
I hope you're not like your photo - not that I'm
really worrying about that, 'cause I know you
must be just as nice as you always were. Mac
if my letters should at any time sound strained
or stiff - you know - don't take any notice of
it. It's just that at times I get so scared when
I remember how long it is since you held me
close to you and said - remember - "It's more than
liking you Dot." When I get awfully lonely I
like to shut my eyes tight and remember how
you looked as you said it. And in my heart
I say I prayer to God to look after you and
bring you home safely to me. Until that day
Mac I'll keep on thinking of you and loving you
and your love will carry me through. All love
Dorothy.
