Dearest Dot, 21st June 1943
Its only that old boyfriend of yours, almost 24 now you know, gosh if I could
only get the one present I really want, still I guess I just have to wish pretty hard that Im
with you for my 25, and just hope for the next best thing this time which is a letter, or maybe
two, from you darling. Do you still think Im a stranger, or I should say might seem like a stranger
to you when I get back, darling or have I convinced you yet that I wont change Dot, the day Im a
stranger to you darling Ill be a stranger to myself, so dont even think that way Dot, dont mind
if you find me repeating myself will you. Ill try not to do it to much though I suppose you
are used to it by now. I hope your not mad at me over my last letter darling. Ive never
been more sincere than I was in that letter, you have all my thoughts and hopes in fine
words in that letter Dot. I hope you are not annoyed with these letters Dot they are
all very much the same, but I must let you know how I feel now and again, if I
just keep it to myself it only makes me feel miserable. I suppose I had better change
the subject or Ill drive you crazy. I was listening to some good music the other
night Dot we had Star Dust and a few other good records, it certainly is a break to
hear some decent music once in a while, especially when it brings back memories
of the one person who means so much to me, and who Im always thinking of. How
are you darling taking care of yourself for me, dont forget will you and dont forget to keep
sending a snap of yourself every now and again it seems a long time since I got my last
photo. Wish everyone all the best for me once more, and dont worry, Im still in the
best of health and doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances, my only
worry is you, and it seems we both worry about the same old silly thing’s, you know
changing and all that sort of stuff darling still it shows we both feel the same and thats
something Well darling its Cheerio for now Always all my love to you Mac.

24th June, 1943
Dearest Mac,
To-day is your birthday - this morning, altho'
you probably didn't hear me, I sent you across a
birthday greeting as soon as I woke. The first thought
as I opened my eyes was - Mac's birthday - gee! [[?]]
you have a nice day darling, that day months
back, for that is what it will be when you
receive this. For me, this week has been wonderful.
On Monday I received a letter from you, dated 19/1/43,
pretty old, but nevertheless terribly welcome. Then
the following day another came - this one dated 21/3/43.
I don't know how you react when you receive four,
or sometimes more, letters at once. I would be way
up in the clouds - in fact with only one I'm that
way. Margaret at work had a birthday to-day,
coincidence isn't it? Her fiance wired her & arranged
for her to be sent two white gardenia's. She
was so thrilled she cried. I felt a bit jealous Mac,
I must admit, and I prayed that when my birthday
comes around, you'll be home & send me two white
gardenias too. Will you darling? Not that I really
worry about the flowers - I envied her because
her fiance was able to sender to her - altho' he's
away from Sydney. Getting back to your letters Mac,
I was glad when I read you had received all
those letters from me, including a couple of photos,
but I do get mad when I think of how many
letters have gone astray. Mac, I have never once
missed writing you each week, so you can reckon
up how many have been lost. Uh I shouldn't complain
I know; better a few than knone. Anyway darling,
how are you? Still your same old self I hope.
The other day I saw a chap wearing the old green
& white & plucked up courage enough, to ask
him did he know you. Unfortunately he didn't,
but he knew Mc Cosher well, and was able to
tell me that Mc C. was fit & well. That's something
Mac. Here's to the day when you'll be home
again sweet - I am living for that day Mac. -
To-morrow night I am going out to Gloria's for tea
and to spend the night. Gloria is meeting me
after work. We'll be thinking about you & wishing
you were there too. Here's the end of our letters
once again - but only until next week. Love
from all here at home - take good care of yourself
for me Mac, write soon, all about yourself
& what you do, so far away from me. And by the
way, if you should meet that Mac - would you tell
him Dorothy is very much in love with him?
