15th May, 1943

Dearest Mac,
Well here it is-Saturday afternoon around once again
and here I am once more, sitting in front of the fire writing to
you my weekly letter. Gosh it's a bleak day outside Sweet.
Im' going to the annual tennis dance to-night with the rest of
the crowd from tennis and believe me, I would rather be
crawling into bed. Not only is it windy but the rain is
pouring down and you know what the rain does to my hair.
Besides, Ive' got a cold & that doesn't help matters. How have you
been darling - keeping well I hope. How's the mail doing these days
Mac? I hope its arriving quite regularly now - it must make
all the difference to you lads. There hasn't been any news from
you for about a fortnight - or thereabouts. I had a visit from
Gloria and your Mother during the week. Gloria and Mrs.
Kesh were gadding around - pair of gay sparks I called them.
As always, the topic got around to when you'd been coming home.
You know I get a heck of a lot of teasing from all directions.
Perhaps you'd better hurry home and take a poke at them for
me. Not that I really mind, heavens no! Im' so used to it
that I scarcely bite - that's saying something if you remembered
how I do bite. Gosh sweet it's great here in front of the fire.
The wireless is switched on and all the latest recordings have been
coming over. It's just beaut! How do you like the photo Mac.
I had it taken a few weeks back, and I am sending it to you
fully sure that you won't pick it to pieces. Everyone here at

home had something to find fault. However you always
say ‘ send as many photos as you can’  and here it is.  By the way,
when am I going to have another photo of you? Id like some
more- do you think you could manage it? About my new
job; I haven’t heard, yet, anymore of it, but have reason to
hold out hope. So in my next letter there may be more news.
I suppose Summer is still with you. It must be very pretty
where you are Mac- judging by the photos I have seen of
your new camp. What do you do with yourself all day?
Mum has just interrupted me at this stage and I'm to tell you
she wishes you were here now- there are loads of peas to be
shelled. Gosh I got a surprise’ that day when I come home from
tennis to find you working away. Funny old Mac- you
even had to shell peas. We had Betty over here there other
night. Next month she’ll be twenty one so she’s having a
party to celebrate. She’s so excited Mac, bless her. Same old
Betty with her deep voice’ and funny laugh- I do love her.
My cousin’ Jocelyn will be 21 next month too, Gee aren’t
we growing up sweet? I wonder how things will be on my
birthday darling - I’ m still hoping to have you home by then.
Miracles do happen Mac.  Unfortunately I can’t produce one to
make this page longer so it looks like the end of this
week’s letter. I owe young Norm one so I must set to &
write to him’ I guess.  Take good care of yourself Mac.
Kindest regards from Nanna, George, Mum & Pop & Betty.
Oh yes - that girl - remember the one- tall, fair’, green eyes?
She still loves you Mac - very much. Big Cheerio for
now and no horse play. Again - all my Love. Dorothy.

Dearest Dot,                         16th May 1945
Hullo sweet and how is my little girl friend these days no more horse kicks I hope.
I received two more letters from you 21 Febry mar darling and another grand snap , gosh they are
good to get Dot. I'm always looking forward to them even if they do make me miss you more than
ever. this one was the one with the kiddies. I was very disappointed to hear how slow my mail is
Dot. I certainly know how you must feel, it's one of the many things we have to put up with for
the time being, so instead of worrying about the mail just try and think about the good times we
are going to have soon, Dot. Personally I can't think about anything else. I can't. I also have been
wondering what you must think when you read some of my letters have I surprised you at all
lately darling. I can't do wrong darling. I just got another letter 28 Feb. I only wish that you could get as
many as I do but never mind sweet you will get them all in a bundle, so don't let it get you down.
I see we have another date to add to our list the  more the merrier Dot you make that list as long
as you like and when we finish it we can soon make up another one. Darling please don't
worry about me and for heavens sake dont: dont let your letters sound stressed or stiff. They
mean so much to me. I notice every little thing in them, do I sound as though I've changed in
my letters, I haven't darling and I won't change ever, not unless you call wanting to marry you
changed do you? So when that silly old photo of mine don't smile at you, just think of me as

I was when I said "It's more than liking you, Dot". Because I'll be like that when I come back
darling. Give my kindest regards to everyone once more. Im in the best of health, and feeling
a bit sore from a little too much sun, trust me to over do it. I don't do any work now just
enough exercise to keep my health good, but I play a fair bit of football and basketball
the rest of my time I spend waiting for letters from you, so now you know how I pass
the days away darling. Well darling look after yourself for me and always remember
I'll never change. For the time being Cheerio darling and Always all my love  Mac.

Mac dear -
Me again. calling around for another yarn. You
know sweet, I feel pretty good to-night. For no apparent
reason - it hasn't even been a nice day to-day. Maybe
the thought that next week may bring a letter
from you has a little to do with it. Your Mother
had a letter through the week & of course Im' on
the look out for one too. Mac - tell me - why
do you keep saying you think you'll be coming
home soon? Is it merely wishful thinking dare,
or something just to cheer us up - or what? I
notice you don't tell me about it in my letters,
and I am glad of that Mac. I know I couldn't
bear the wondering and suspense of a lot of "ifs"
and "maybes". Don't think I've grown into an
old patient woman, cause I haven't by any means
I have my dreams as have other girls, but I hate
disappointments, so until you're really on your way
home darling don't give me a false hopes to build on.
I am sending a photo with this letter, taken a couple
of months ago, when all the physi club had photos
taken. Like it sweet? Say, you must have quite a few
photos by now. I am squatting in front of the fire

writing this, and wondering if George and Lorna
will be coming around after tea to take me to the
pictures. I've had a quiet week this past week.
On Thursday night I went up to see a friend of mine
who has recently had a little baby girl. Gosh its
a funny wee thing - a pocket edition of it's father.
So much like him that it makes me laugh when I
think about it. And Mac, they wrap them up so
tightly in their little blankets - gee but they're cute.
Mum has a bad cold - one she caught off me, Im' afraid.
I am very generous in that respect - don't believe in
keeping things all to myself. Regarding my
job darling - I haven't heard anything further so far
but Ill' let you know as soon as I do tho'. What's
new Mac dear? Have you been doing anything exciting
lately? When you write to me, do tell me how you
fill in your time eh? 'Cause I like to know
I had May in through the week, and she bought
one of our coats Effie (as you call her) is, I think,
just about my favourite, if I have one. Just something
so darn nice about her. Well Mac dear I hope
you're looking after yourself well & behaving
of cause. Here's hoping for a letter from you
next week, with heaps of news. And too, there's a
hope that I'll seeing you very soon - just on
account of because. Love from all the family &
me too. Remember what I told you? Always
Dorothy
