Dear Mother I have not written for 3 weeks I'm very sorry but I'v

been waiting & hoping that I would get some letters before I wrote

again, it will be 3 months tomorrow since I got the last one.

I not sure but I think I forgot to tell you, I got the march

clothing parcel about 1 month ago, It was very welcome, my thanks

to everyone who helped to send it. By the way Mother someone

sliped a fast one over you, out of the 3 cakes of Rexona soaps in

the parcel 2 were soap & very good soap it is. But the other one

was a block of wood all nicely done up & marked 10½, but on

the back of the packet it was marked dummy, so I expect it was put

in by mistake. However it did'nt matter as I have plenty of soap

& it helped to make a cup of tea I’ll bet that is something that

never happened before, a bit of Australian wood burnt in a German

prison camp. I have been playing a good deal of bridge lately

& am becoming quite a fair player, but am rather unlucky with

the cards. The wether has been very bad the last 2 months, pretty

cold & raining nearly every day, & the camp outside the barracks

is just one big mud puddle. There is a lot of S. African mail supposed
to be coming in today & I’m hoping very hard there is some of
ones with it. I believe that all men who were at large in enemy
country are to get 2/5 per day [[Stirling?]] extra, so Fred & I will do

pretty well out of that. I saw in one of our news sheets that all

the Aussies that were on Crete when we got caught & afterwards got away
were all mentioned in dispatches. Give my love to the Boys & Joan

Cheerio Mother Dear

Love from

Red.

Dear Mother I hope you have had a fairly good Xmas, & that

the coming year will be a happy one for you. And I have great

hopes, that it will be for all of us. I got another letter from

you, on the 4th the second one in 4 months. I was glad to hear

about Dad's will as have been wondering how you were getting

on for money. From what you tell me, you should be quite

comfortable. But, Mother, whatever you do dont try to be to

saving, look after yourself, & we wont worry about the money.

On the 4th of this month, I sent you another ₤200, I hope you

get it alright. I meant to send it a long time ago, but kept

putting  it off, now after considering I have done so. If you

need any, please use it, if not do whatever you think best

with it. Tell Joan; I was sorry to hear about her fathers

death, give her my love, & I'll write to her next time I get

one of these cards. The last few days, there has been let

up in wet weather, & there has xbeen some very hard frosts, but

no snow so far. Today has been a very nice day, the ground

was frozen hard, So we had a rest from walking round

in a mud puddle, & the sun was shining all day. So

although cold it was quite nice. Our Xmas parcels did

not get here, although we received word they have been sent.

However we had other parcels, & had quite good feeds,

including a pudding made out of biscuits & fruit & stuff.

The spirit in camp was very good, & it has been a good Xmas

Cheerio Mother Dear

Your Loving Son Red

Dear Mother I'm sorry I have not been writing very often, the

last few months. But there is realy very little for me to say, as

nothing new ever happens here, & I'v only had 3 letters from you, in the last 6 months.

We got 1 parcel per man for new year, the first time we'v had a

whole one for about 5 months. So we all had some very good feeds,

& appreciated them all the more, because of having been a bit

short before. Im quite well & hope you are too. Cheerio Mother

Dear Mother I have not had any letters for a long time

now, the mail seems to be very uncertain these days.

I hope you are getting some from me, as I know you

like to get them. Although I'm afraid they have been

very uninteresting, the last few months. On the 4/11/44

I sent you another ₤200. if you want any money, or if

Bill or John want any, & you have not got it available

please use some of mine. If none of you require it, do

whatever you think best with it. I have told you all

this before, but repeat it in case you don't any of the

other letters, in which I told you. I have heard that there

been some land balloted for & one chap in this camp

who was in for it, failed to get a block. But someone

that he knows, who is a prisoner of the Japs was lucky

& got one. So I'm getting very curious to know if John

or I had any luck. How is Jack getting on? is he

making anything out of the shop, or is he just keeping

going, like we were before I left. Although you have

told me several times, that he was going to write to

me. I doubt if he ever has done so, because I'v never

had a letter from him & it seems funny, that if he has

writen I'v never got any of them. Well Mother, there's

no news. The weather has been pretty cold lately, there has been some very hard frost & a little snow. I'm quite well & hope you are the same. Cheerio Mother
