Dear John I was very pleased to hear that you
were able ^to get such good long leave for Xmas, & hope
you had a good time. It was hard luck that Bill
could not be home at the same time. I hear from
both Mother & Dad that Betty Downing is a very
nice girl & that she was a great help ^to while Mother
while staying at home. Look after yourself & good luck.

Dear Mother & Dad. I have heard in Australia
news, that anyone who joined the army
before reaching the age of 21 will be elidgable
for the schme of training returned soldiers
in a trade, & paying them a living wage
while training. Will you please make inquiries,
find out what the conditions are & what
would be a good thing to take up in case
I fail to get a block of land. If the opperation
for a block is successfull, find out if
it would be possibable with the help of the
scheme ^for me to spend a few months on one of the
government training farms before going onto
my own block. Do not comitt me to anything
definite, but let me know what you find out,
& get a copy of my birth certificate so that
I can prove I was under 21 when I joined up.
The last letter I had from you "Mother" was
15/7/44. I was glad to hear that Betty was such
a help to you while John was at home;
you must have been pretty busy. We have
xhad a few nice days lately & should soon get
the proper summer. I am well & hope you are
all the same. Give my regards to friends & relations.
Cheerio Love to all

Dear Billie As you will see from this card I am in
a new camp, it is for N.C.O's only & is a slight
improvement on the last one. I am glad you are so
happy, & hope it wont be to long before I see
you all again. How is Frank getting on with
the farm. We had a fairly mild winter here, & are
getting some xwarm weather now. Give my regards to Frank.

Dear Mother & Dad I have not had any letters
for nearly a month & so have very little to
write about. The life here is just the same old
thing day after day, we get tea from the cook-house
at 7 o'clock in the morning we have
something to eat & then go on roll call, at 11.30
there is another roll call, at 12 soup from the
cookhouse, at 4.45 tea from the cookhouse &
we have something to eat with it, at 6 roll
call again, we have a drink of tea & a
biscuit for supper about 8, & lights out at
ten. It is a pretty easy life phisically but I'd
give a lot to be out of it; perhaps we will
be before very long. I have heard in Australian
news that anyone joining the army before the
age of 21 will be paid a living wage while
learning a trade. Will you please make
inquiries about what is a good thing to take
up, if my application xfor land is unsuccessful,
& if the application is successfull would it
be possible to spend a few months on a
Government training farm with the help of
the schme. And please get a copy of my birth
certificate so that I can prove my right age.
Cheerio Love to all
