No. 26

7/10/43

Dear Mother & Dad I got a letter from Flaps wife last

week. She had just got mine telling her where Flap
was & that he was quite well last time we saw

him. She also sent me a snap of her daughter, she

looks a nice little kid. Mrs James also wrote to Fred
& he got it about a week before I got mine, but

at that time she had not received my letter about
Flaps whereabouts. She says she met you "Mother" at
Mrs Gourlay's, which is the first I heard of you knowing

Mrs Gourlay, how did you come to get in touch

with her? I know George of course as he was in the

same troop as me. I have seen him^since he came to

this Stalag. but he has gone out on a working party

now. I had all my hair cut off with the clippers
about 3 weeks ago, I had dandruff rather badly &

my hair was coming out a good deal that's why
I had it off, it is growing very well again now

& quite free from the dandruff,  but I looked very

funny for the first fortnight or so.  I have not

any parcels yet, except 3 of cigs from England.

I dont realy need any as I have plenty of clothes,

but I would like to get one just the same.
How did Jack getting on with the shop. I have not

heard from him so far. I hope Bill & John are still

alright, I would be very glad to hear from them.

Best of love to all

Red

Dear Billie Thanks for your letter which I got yesterday.

Just for a moment when I saw the name I did not
know who it was from. I ^was pleased to se hear that you

& Frank were able to be married at last, & am very

glad you are so happy.  I had all my  hair cut off

about 6 weeks ago because it was getting thin, it is
growing well again now & as thick as it ever was.

Love & Good luck to you

both Bert

Dear Mother & Dad. I ^ am having quite a lot of letters

lately. last week I got two from you 8th July

& 18th Aug & also one from Billie.  This week I
had one from you 1st Aug & one from Joan 31st July.

Joan said that you had been speaking to Flap,

Fred had letters from home some time ago saying

that Flap was home, so if you have been

speaking to him I expect you know a little

about what happened to us. although I dont

surpose he knew very much himself. Joan

wrote me a very nice letter as she always does.

She seems to have quite adopted the family

she often refers to our place as home. I was

interested to hear about Bruce Downing

being married & that Betty had been to

see you, does John still write to her. It is

sunday today & there is a rugby math on N.Z.

v Australia which I must go & see, although I

think N.Z. will win.  Last week Australia

beat Wales in a very rough game that nearly

ended in a fight.  There is not much sport

here now. it is to cold for anything except

football.  I have been in bed for a couple of

days with a touch of flu but am pretty right

again now.  This is a terrible climate not enough sun.

Love to all

Red
