Dear Mother & Dad. I had a nice surprise yesterday. Fred

arrived back in Stalag. There are quite a lot of the Regit.

here now. I hope you are all well at home, as I am.

Last week I sent you £200 do with it as you think

best, as I had over £300 in my pay book I thought it

as well to send some home. Fred has had a parcel

from home & one from Mrs Grimmitt, so I should get one soon.

Best Love to all

Dear Mother & Dad, I hope you are both well. I

wrote last week, a post card & wanted to send

it air mail but was told that post cards do

not go air mail now. Either it is something new

or I have been misled as this is the first time

the money has been returned. I hope it is the

former, if not it is going to be a long time

before you get many letters as quite a lot I

have written have been postcards. I got a letter

from you yesterday in which you told what

had been done about the land. I hope that Bill

& John also go in for it. I quite relise how they

feel about settling down, I feel the same possibly

more so than they do after having lived for 14

months in a place where I could go where & when

I pleased with no one to say me ney, & never any

need to stay in one place for a day if I did not

want to. And then to ^ be cooped ^ up there where I cant

move however much I want to. The contrast is

very great & not at all pleasent. But I also realise

that if a man does not get in & make something

for himself in the first few to years after the war

the opportunity will be gone ^ & he will most likely

be working for wages for the rest of his life.

And I dont want to that. Very best of Love

Dear Mother & Dad. I hope you are both well.

I'm not getting much mail, but I got a letter

from Joan yesterday. She had just heard from

Bill & John & says they are both well. She always

writes me a very nice letter & I'm very glad to get them

I have only had one letter from John & none from

Bill so far. I have had 3 cig parcels from England

but no clothing parcels yet. Wish all our friends &

relations a Merry Xmas & happy New year from me.

It is impossible to mention all the names it would

take up most of the letter, but you know them all.

I cant write everyone because of the shortage of

cards but I would ^ not like them think I've forgotten them.

Next month it will be getting cold here, but I

have plenty of warm clothes & a good pair of boots

that are to big for me, so I can wear two to three

pairs of socks. It was a very mild winter last

year for this country, the coldest we had was 25o

below zero. However I dont feel it much now, it

is nearly as cold now as winter at home & I'm ^ still going

about in shorts & shirt & having cold barthes. I had

hopes that I would be home before this winter

but it ^ looks as though we will be spending it here

now. But I expect to be home soon after & I recon

the day I get off the boat will be the best day of ^ my life

Best of Love from

Red
