Dear Mother & Dad    26/12/42

It is boxing day today so

I am going to let you know what sort of

Xmas I had. On Xmas eve we drew the parcel &

50 cigs, the parcel contained a tin of steak &

tomatoes pudding, a tin of steak & maccaronie,

a xmas pudding, a cake, chocolate, sugar, tea, sweets,

butter, milk, soap, chocolate biscuits,. Fred the cobber I was

with on Crete is still with me, & as well a parcels

each we had some biscuits that we had saved

& made into a cake & some dried bannaners.

For breakfast we had stued bannaners & cake

with custard, for dinner steak & maccaronie pie

crust made with biscuits, mashed spuds, cabbage

pudding & custard. For tea toast & butter

& cake. In the X room where there are 12

men we have a stove for warming the

room & to do the cooking on, cake & pies

we can do in the kitchen. So we had very

good food for xmas & everyone was in good

spirits. As for comfort & good food it was

a much better xmas than the last one

for me. Tomorrow I will be 22, I think &

hope by the time I'm 23 I will be home

again. You better get ready for a 21st birthday

party & two or three xmases rolled into one.

Give my love to all our friends. Cheerio Love from
Red

Billie Dear                  26/12/42

How are you getting on these days, it

seems years since I heard from you. I hope you

got my last letter & were able to let Mother &

Dad know before they got my first letter, as

it would ^be rather a shock to them when I had

been missing for so long, did you think I

was dead. I have been in Germany for about

two months now & am out on a working

party, we don't have to work very hard & with

the Red + parcels get quite good food. We got

a very good xmas parcel & also three days off

from work, xmas night the boys put on quite

a good concert & everyone was in good spirits

When I joined the army I was 19, tomorrow I

will be 22, it seems a long time since

that day just over three years ago & I've

had many adventures since, some day I

hope to be able to tell you some of

them.

There is not much I can write about from here

but I will be very glad to hear from you

please write as often as you can.

Give my love to the family.

Your Loving cousin

Bert XX
