My dearest Mother,

Although it is only 2 days
since I last wrote to you, I’m going to inflict
another letter on you today to tell you that I’m
back with the old Battn. again & my promotion
has been confirmed. My hand is going on
splendidly & should be quite right in a few days.

I had quite a brilliant
reception when I got here. I didn’t know how
much liked I was till I went away for a while.
Now on the eve of our departure
somewhere or other to the firing line, I should like
to tell you, mother dear, that I have never regretted
joining the AIF, & that whatever happens I shall
feel I did the only thing that could be done, and
that I appreciate what a sacrifice it was to

you all to give your consent to my enlisting.
I know what trust and hope you have in me.
So far, mother, it has has not been misplaced & God
willing, it never shall be. I haven’t received

my birthday parcel yet, but got one from

Emmie last night containing salmon, chocolate,
cigarettes & papers. It is good of her isnt it?
Now dear mother, I must close, with fondest
love to you all from your ever loving son
Willy
My letters were all sent to the Hospital the
day before I left so I just missed them. I

suppose they will come back some day.
Enclosed find letter from Ernie, received a
few days ago. He is unlucky not getting
home isnt he ? Fancy him being here
in Egypt while I was, as soon as
I got his address he & I were both shifted
