Malta I hear. No change in the weather
thus far. I have nothing to do on
Board. My staff attend to everything
& I can lie & think about you &
my xxx little wee pets ones all day. I am
very lonesome for you all my dear
ones. Don't forget to tell me all the little jokes &
tricks of the wee our darlings Katie. It is
cheating to be away from themxxxxxxxxxx

[[Fossil?]] Colonels got seriously ill
before we left Egypt & we left him
there. I am trying to get Geoff McCrae
made Colonel in his place. I hope
the old chap doesn't come back for the
sake of the Regiment but apart
from that I wish him no harm
one way or another. Now if the
third old Fogey chap would trip over
a brick & break his leg or damage
himself in some way & I could
get Bert Layh made Colonel in
his place & I would be set up with
my Colonels just as I would like
Of course I would rather have Bob
Smith as Colonel than Geoff [[Mc?]]
but that is impossible & Bob is [[?]]
very loyal to me. It would however [[?]]
a great comfort. One if anything
happened to me to have Bobready
to succeed me as Brigadier. I would
be easier in my mind about my [[Boys?]]
But we cannot have everything can [[we?]]
