Dear Bert
Very pleased indeed
to receive on Nov 19th your Cards & Keepsake
dated 13 & 19 Oct. It was very kind &
thoughtful of you to send it, I will
take great care of it I can assure you
A few days ago before it arrived
Florrie said she wished she had one
as they are all the go here with the
girls, only they are bronze. I have
also received your Cards & letter
dated Oct 23 the set you were anxious
for me to get, are very nice indeed,
but Florrie says her's is the best she
is delighted with her cards so is
Stan we have a good collection
infact we want another Album.
Well Bert I see by your last letter
you are in Camp again the good
times did not last long for you, I
think that after what you Chaps
have gone through, All of you should
be sent home & not sent to the front
again I was in hopes of you being
(2)
home with us this Xmas It will be a
sad Xmas for us now poor Grandma
has gone. The three single Girls & myself
miss her very much, Things are very
unsettled as regards the old home.
C. &. L. are very ugly about things
The fact is they want the property.
& I proposed for the Married ones
to agree for it to be transferred
to the 3 Single Girls if it could be done
which it can if he likes, of course
it is in his hands but he wants to
sell it & get somebody to buy it for him
that is the long & short of it.
We had a great day in Ball last
Sat. The Red Cross Carnival it was a
great success. They reckon to realize
£1000 Florrie Stan & I went up in the
afternoon it was held at the City Oval
I am sending the Courier with the
full account of it, so you will see
for yourself that is if you have the
luck to get it or the letter as I am
puzzled where to address them
Mrs Williams on the corner of Morgan St
have shifted into town, H.p. next door
offered her £20 then Chas N. at the store
offered her £30 so she told H.p. she
could not let him have it as sombody
else had offered her 30 so he says I,ll
give you 30 however he got it I here
he is going to sell the house again
for removal, Well Bert you must
excuse this scribble as I am making Jam
with the Gooseberries off our trees I only wish
you were here to help us eat it,
Dear Bert I wonder where you will be when
this reaches you ^however I hope & trust you are
well & strong by this, especially if you
are to go back, for you will need allnerves & your strength & courage to face that
again, I must now conclude hoping
you are quite recovered & be of Good
Cheer my lad & may (God) bless &
protect & shelter you in the day of
Battle endue you with loyalty &
courage & grant that in his own
good time you may have a safe
return home with love from
your loving Mother
[*Florrie & Stan join with me in wishing a
happy new year*]
