Food:- Fairly short at moment

as gardens not yet producing

Medicine:- Distributed medicines

as follows:-

4 Dysentry

2 Scabies

2 Bad Sores (probably ringworm)

Treatment greatly welcomed.

Propaganda:- Made prop. speech 

through Tu Kampong which

seemed to impress them and

all expressed desire to help us.

Long Pa Pilong

Kepala = Penegran Langub

about 55 - married.

There are 12 men in 

this house but the majority

are over forty

The following could make

good soldiers, guides etc as

they live mainly by hunting

in the mountains near the

pass and are very active

(1) Salutan Tabad - 28 - married

(2) Sake Lagong  - 22 - single

(3) Yangong Balan - ?36 - married

(4) Siga Balan 18 - single

(5) Padan Dowat 26 - married.

Showed all above the

workings of carbine and

Austen - they appeared to

take in the information

well.

Suggest we arm 3-4

of these men who would

form a defence stop gap

before the mountain pass.

They are also close enough

to be used by M2 in

his work.

There are 10 married women

(7 old) & 16 children (some girls

about 16-18)

Labour:- Plenty available 

for carriers etc although

on the oldish side

Food:- Well supplied with rice,

bananas, potato, and keep

themselves well stocked with

wild pig

Medicine - Treatment of cases as

follows: -

4 Malaria.

2 Dysentry

6 Scabies - mostly among children

7 Bad sore cases

plus usual headacke

and stomach ackes - generally

assumed. All very pleased

with medicines which is 

first they have received

for a long time

Propaganda:- Made strong

talk through Tu Kampong

- they all caught on to the

idea well and have

promised to kill or

capture any enemy and

send captives & captured

materials through M2-then

here.

Long Masain on Raya River.

Penghulu:- Baru Agong.

There are 11 men here all

told - 1 blind, 1 cripple and

1 about 60. The others are

all under 30 and good

types sinular to Penghulu.

(1) Baru Agong - Married

(2) Padan Glawit - Married

(3) Larkon Marang - Single

(4) Saliton Saki - Single

The above already have rifles

(5) Paniran Bahi - married

6  Gukal Paniran - married

(7) Tuba Laku - single

(8) Laki Saya  - single

The latter 4 would make

good men if decided to

Arm them further.

They also require more

303 ammn for rifles on

issue

Food:- well supplied with all

sorts

Medicines:- Treatment given

4 With bad sores

3 Bad Eyes

For large house they were

fairly free from sickness

except of course usual

headaches - however any

sort of pill seems to cure

these.

Labour:- 11 men & 12 women

plus 18 children of various

ages. Plenty available

for any work we required

Penghulu has promised

fullest co-operation if

we decide to send anyone

there - will build anything

we want immediately and 

keep well supplied with

food and necessary labour

Propaganda:- usual talk

through Tu Kampong only

this time the latter

made it very strong and

clear. He had a long talk

with Penghulu and me

and pronounced them

very keen to help and

Assured me that they

could manage any

reasonable situation

and send any captured

goods, documents etc here

immediately. Also promised

a runner with any news

at any time

Long Pamatong

New long house replacing Long

Salipa - thus making track

as platted wrong - about

3-5 miles from old site.

There are 12 men - 1 very old

and another blind - the

balance however are all

under 35. They are

All seem pretty good types

of Murits. Very industrious

- saw more work here

than any other house

Food:- Plenty rice, potato and

ferns with usual supply

of chickens. Gardens are not

producing yet but could

supply good amount of

above at any time. Also

have wild pig.

Medicines: Treated: -

4 Malaria - one bad - left

enough quinine for 3 days so

should be OK.

6 Dysentry or Diahorrera

5 Scabies

3 Bad Eyes

2 Bad Sores

Labour:- Plenty available

and they should be very

good workers as they are 

very keen

Propaganda! - Well received

and all expressed willingness

to help in anyway

possible

Don't think position

warrants giving of any

arms at present unless

required for some special

purpose.
