July 6th 1915
Dear Sir
I notice in your "Mail" for
May 19th reference is made to
Pte. Downes F. of the 9th A.I.F. being
wounded. "Franky" (as we called him)
was a patient in one of the wards
under my charge) so I am sending
you 2 photographs I took of him
which you may be able to publish
in your paper. His case was a
most pathetic one. The bullet
entered his left temple, destroyed
the nerve of his left eye & came out
through his right eye, blinding
him for life. Through it
all he was most cheerful,
& now that he has left us,
there is quite a blan gap in
the ward. He left a week
ago on board a transport
for Australia.
I am, Sir,
Yours faithfully
(Corpl.) T.Humphreys Mollard
