My dear old Alec,
I cant express my
anxiety & sympathy I feel for you
& earnestly pray that you are
alright & longingly look forward
for another letter from you to
say you are yourself again old boy.
It must have been
a most sudden attack as it
was not long since I received
your letter before last that I received
the one just arrived which
shows how pulled down you must
have been at the time of writing
I hope you still keep
your appointment at the Government
I hope the opperation wont
keep you laid up in hospital very
long. Since it will be about
two & a half months, after your
illness, when you receive this
have enclosed a cutting of our
little stunt of the 28th for you to
read. It is the official
news so you can take it for
truth.

At the present period of the
war the Germans having
reached the coast are talking
of invasion their only & main object.
This natureately starts to bring
the reallity of war back to people
in England.
They have been taking
Submarines over land to Antwerp
& have plenty preparations for
the proposed invasion & bombardment
of England. from the French shores
You will probably have read
this in the papers before you get
4
my letter so I will not
continue to bore you with
paper gossop.
I should think it would
be better for you to wait
a bit, even if you get the
chance in the expeditionary force,
& make sure you are free
from your appendicitus.
Talking about spies,
they simply swarm in the British
Isles, especially at naval depots &
are extremely difficult to catch,
though two are on trial at present.
At xxxxxx ^somewhere you can see them
flashing on the hills all night.
