My Dear wife

the war still go on and
not a sign of it finishing,
they are fighting like mad.
around xxx I think it
is all or nothing this time
with England & I dont
blame them either they
are a rotten lot the Germans
2
shout over the trenches to
us & we shout back they
shout to see If we will put
our heads up so as they can
have a pop at us but we
are as wide a they we get
them at there own game
sometime. I met another of
the Australian reservest here
they all seem to be pining
to get Back (Like me)
what did you think of the
ypres affair & New chatel welast lost heavily at Ypres
but the German were just
3
like so many madman coming
up in great masses
the machine gun shot them
down all most as quick as
they came up. I just miss
that lot by the mercy of God
just a few of us had to
go Elsewhere and we had
it pretty easy it was a kind
of rest after a long while in
the trenches we are having
splendid weather her dear
and all the boys want
to get into it and get
it over I think it is
4
a fight to a finish & I
dont think it will be England
who will be finished it will
be the (Alleman) German alright
Well Darling are you & the
children well I hope so I have
not received this weeks
mail yet as I am away

wrong because I am away
from the most crowd I
am doing a guard I have
been on it for 5 day now
Well dear I never told you
5
about the hot baths and
change of under clothes we
get every now & again
we come out of the trenchs
we have a rest and then
we march off to ba to the
bath. It a large building
we strip of in a big
room & leave just our
shirt drawers & socks on
and then go into another
big place a there is a
lot of big baths & I
tell you it funny to
6
see all the boys in the
hot water trying to float
in about as much room
as a Little chap could take
1 good stroke in. Well dear
we are alowed about 3
minutes to wash in & If
we dont get out when
he tell us he turns the
cold water on us I tell
you (It fun alright after
the trenchs) When we get
out there is a man with
a clean towel for Every
man that baths & clean
set of under clothes & good
