Dear Father :-
Just a line to let you know that
all is fairly well and I am being amitted
to a hospital. It was on the 2nd of this month
that I was wounded, and it came so unexpectedly
I didn't know what it was, I thought
for the second someone throw a big stone, but
it wasn't. I was just coming from a place we
boil our water and I just made a drop of tea
and was making my way back to the dug
out in the hill when I caught it, (just above
the right eye). When it hit me it knock
me over but I never took the count, I got up
and look at my last drop of water spilt,
then the blood started to come out in torrens
a cobber near me at the time dressed it with
my pocket Field dressing (which every soldier
is provided with) Then I walked down to the
Hospital on the beach with a mate of mine.
(2)
When I got there for a proper dressing
I had to stay there never thought it was
as bad as that, to keep me in a hospital.
Well the next night I was put on a hospital
ship. We are in some harbour now where there
is a lot of Hospitals but I do not know whether
I am getting off here Lemos Island is the place
I have a letter for mum which I wrote just
before I got the wound so you can let her
know. You t needn't get worried, because
I am aloud to roam about on the boat, so
it is not serious. Well Father I will
now close with best wishes.
From your loving
Son. Bill
