Dear Captain Dalllton
I believe that in the press as
been letters complaining about the bad treatment in the
Hospitals
My experience as been from the time I left the firing
line slightly wounded till I arrived at Mena Hospital
as been very plesant I received with my other
comrades every attention The very best of food
and clothing and besides gifts of cigarettes
Tobaco Choclates etc and every care and
kindness from the Doctors Nursing Sisters and
Orderlys
It is wonderfull how they manage
I was first attended at the first dressing post near the firing line
then at the fid First field Hospital where I
received Beef Tea then to the embarking station
more Tea & Bread & Butter then to the Hospital
ship then more food supplied to us then
to Embros Island Hospital where
every attention was give then

on to the Assave Hospital ship then
on to Alexandria then on the Red Cross
Train where we entrained to Gezirah Palace
No 2 Hospital aAustralian where every attention
was given
Then after staying a few days sent
out to Rest at Mena House Hospital
Australia ought to very proud of
Our Australian Nursing Sisters
and Doctors
On On the Hospital ships are some
of Englands cleverest Doctors
from Harly St London
if you think this would do any
good to Publish this letter you may
do so
of course we had grumbles in
Liverpool camp on the Boat in the
camp at Egypt where  They where never justified
my kinds Regard to Mrs Young husband & Family
and my best wishes to Mrs Dalton and

On Sunday morning the 22nd of August
The 5th Brigade just as day was breaking
made the attack on the Trench Turks who
where entrenched on Hill No —
C Coy of the 18th Batt made led the attack and
was followed by B.D. and A and where
reinforced by 19th 20th and 17 Battalions
I was wounded early in the attack and was
with Lieutenant Linklater who was badly
wounded in the Sikh Indian trench just
behind the Turkish trenches
Where I witnessed each company make
thier charge
My comrades fought with great dash and
courage in spite of the shells ^and machine
Guns deadly enfilading fire and captured
trench from the Turks
Hero's every one
[*1*]  The Boys of the Fifth Brigade
All. Honour The Boys of the Fifth Brigade
Honour Thier Hero's dead
who fell in ^the Gallant charge they made
xxx And braverly they where led
All Honour The Boy of the Fifth Brigade

2 All Honour The Boys of The Fifth Brigade
Rifle fire in front of them
Schrapnel shells bursting over them
Machine Guns firing on the left of them
All Honour The Boys of the fifth Brigade
3  All, Honour the Boys of the fifth Brigade
With a ringing cheer they made the Charge
Bayoneting The Turk with all thier might
Manning the trenches they took in the fight
Honour The Boys of the Fifth Brigade
4 All Honour the Boys of The Fifth Brigade
Honour the Wounded Hero's who fell
and xx had braverly fought so well
Honour the Gallant officer's Honour the Brave men
All. Honour The Boy of The Fifth Brigade
a^ I composed this
Poem
But I dont think
it is up to the
standard
