My Dear Mum & Dad,
Just a few lines to let
you know how I am getting on well mum
dear we have arrived at the front at
last & things here are all right thank
God xxxxx we are getting good food here
for breakfast we get bacon jam & bread
every other day the we get good Stew
& rice with currents for dinner & tea
& biscuits for tea so we cannot grumble
it is very funny watching us ducking
about when our artillery starts to
fire we sleep in dugouts what we made
ourselfs and we all look as if we were
at home as happy as larry well mum
I will have my 18th Birthday on Monday
in the trenches I think well mum I
dont no how long more it is going
to last I do not care much that
life will do me I hope you are
getting my pay alright I believe
we get paid here if we want it

on we get 4 packets of ciggaretts & 1 box
of matches every week the brand of the
ciggaretts is arf a [?nxoo] Kaiser & the
are very good I suppose if I have
the luck I will see Christmas here
I hope I do we mum the turks have
a gun which we call Beachy bill
you might have seen it in the
Sydney papers they fire it on the
beach near us well mum there is
not much time for writing as we are
going to do some work now Wishing
you all a merry Xmas & a happy new
year which I hope I will Good bye
for the present & God Bless you all
