Letter from Lewis Pentreath Curnow to Mrs Flemming, 15 February 1916

No. 2. Aux. Hospital.
"Atelier", Heliopolis.
15/2/16.
Dear Miss Flemming,
Affixed to a tin
of sweets (particularly nice ones, too) the
enclosure reached me today. Rather late
for Xmas greetings to come along (!) but
none the less welcome. I wish to take
the opportunity of thanking one of the
great band of our dear Australian
womenfolk, the products of whose
unselfish efforts have been of inestimable
delight to all of we boys. You will
be, perhaps, pleased to know, that
the resources of the Red Cross Society here
in Egypt have been a wonderful help
to the various hospitals inasmuch as the
Society has provided innumerable comforts
& necessities to wounded & sick men,
which the hospitals were themselves unable
to supply. I need only say that we
all feel the greatest appreciation of
the thoughtfulness of you all & we trust
2
trust that we have been, in some
small way, able to maintain the
name of our dear old Australia
in return for it all.
My thanks to yourself and
may the New Year (it is still quite
a young one!) hold all sorts of good
luck & happy days for you.
Yours very sincerely
L. P. Curnow.
