Dear Mum
Well Mum I have had the first
experience of war. I had two days of it before I
stoked one in the side it is not much and I wont
be long before I am back at it again. Well when I
come home again I will be able to duck and
sidestep anything after trying it on shrapnel and
bullets talk about hail storm its not half in it
it was pretty sudden when we were charging them
with the bayonet from the word go off the waters edge
by gum the lads are fighting well together. I dont
know how poor old Harry is getting on I have not seen
him since we left Lemnos Is. Mum I can't give you
every incident of the engagement now but we will
beat them thats good enough isint it. I suppose you
get plenty of lies in the papers like when we came
back to Alexandria. we got a paper and it gave a
different account altogether to what it was I will
give you a full account later on hoping this will
find all well at home Tar, tar
XXX
Love from George
war is not what its cracked up to be but half an hour under heavy
fire you get used to it.
