and read orders to us & told us that

the first Brigade was going to make a

charge at 5.30pm and drive the Turks

from the trenches well at 5.30 pm all

waiting for the whistle to go & when

it went every man was over our.

Trenches and the fight commenced.

line of trenches & driven the turks out.

It was terrible hard fighting the turks

starts to throw bombs into the

the trenches as soon as they landed.

in our trenches we would pick

them up and throw them at the

turks is was living hell dead

laying five & six days in the trenches

in fact you could not walk

without treading on the dead when

you put your foot down you feel

the body quiver under your feet it

was horrible colonel McNaughton

was wounded and refused to be

releaved till this battalion was

releaved we held the trenches till

Monday and our battalion was

releaved for 48 hour rest out
