TELEGRAMS:

ALLINGTON, LANSDOWNE,

BOURNEMOUTH.

My dear James,

Annie and I are staying here

for a short holiday. It is a place on the south

coast & on our way we stopped a night at

Coventry, near Birmingham, in order to see

Alex who is in a hospital at Coventry. We

both like him very much. He is a very nice lad,

and looks just like he did in the photo we had

of the three of you, when he was a child.

He is wounded in the shoulder, not very severely,

& we had permission from the doctor & the

matron at the hospital to take him with us

to Bournemouth for a fortnight, as I of course

was equally capable of X dressing his wound,

& looking after him. However the permission

was vetoed at the last moment from
headquarters at Birmingham. So now we are

going to have him with us at Colwyn Bay

as soon as he is well enough to have some

furlough. There are 6 Australians as well

in the same hospital, and none of them had

a cent amongst them, for somehow they had

not received any pay. So Annie found some

pocket money for the lot & we will see that

Alex is alright. I hope he liked us as much

as we liked him, but he does not seem to be

a demonstrative sort of fellow. He is anxious

to get back to the Dardanelles, but I think by

the time he is better & has had some furlough

that the fighting at the Dardanelles will be

about over & that Constantinople will have

fallen. Let us hope so.

Alex says that Franks asthma is not as bad

as it used to be, & he says that he has left

Dr. Van Fomeron. What is he doing now?

I hope you are keeping quite well.

Don't forget to ask at the post office for the

papers, for I send one every week.

Please give our love to Frank, and with the

same for yourself from us both

I remain,

Your affect. Brother.

Alex.
