Letter from [E MacDermod] to the editor of the Sydney Morning Herald

[*PR82/8*]
REGISTRAR GENERAL'S DEPARTMENT,
SYDNEY, 30th. December, 1915.
Dear Sir,
I enclose a letter which I have received
(as Honorary Secretary of the Neutral Bay Lawn Tennis
Club) from Mrs. B. J. Newmarch, the wife of Surgeon -
Colonel Newmarch, relative to newspapers &c., for
wounded Australians in hospital in Egypt.
In view of Mrs. Newmarch's request
that Australians here should know that old papers are
useless, and their despatch a great waste of labour,
and of stamps, I should be glad if you will kindly
publish her letter for general information.
Kindly return the letter to me when you
have finished with it
Yours faithfully
E MacDermot
The Editor,
"Sydney Morning Herald,"
SYDNEY.

Mrs B. J. Newmarch.
Heliopolis Palace Hospital

The Secretary
Neutral Bay Lawn Tennis Club
Dear Sir
Thank you for the papers you
have sent, our wounded & sick
Australians have been pleased to get
them. If you are sending any more
please send them to me, at above
address. My Husband is now the
O.C of above Hospital, and I have
charge of a small store, which the A.
Red Cross has opened there, & every
Thursday a number of Australian
Ladies help me give every patient
a paper to read. An Australian one
'if possible' also the one they want
is the one from their own State.
Half the papers sent from Australia
are wasted because they are too old.
I will not give them old ones so
sometimes out of five sacks full,
I get two sacks fit to give, this
is a great waste of labour x and
also of stamps, & if you could point
this out to Australia, all Australians
in Egypt would be obliged.
Again thanking the Lawn Tennis Club
for the papers
Yours Sincerely
Blanche Newmarch
